The media will report what they have learned from the attending emergency services, unless they happened to have a reporter there first-hand. Emergency services personnel, lovely people that they are, are not above publicly guessing as to the cause of an accident. In the case of Mrs H's accident nearly two years ago, they were speculating to the media that she had been blown off her bike. They may have been right, but that comment was pure speculation, as Mrs H has no knowledge of what happened, nor do I as first at the scene.

Anyway, our thoughts go out to the rider killed yesterday in Upper Hutt and to their family. While there is never a good time to die, one week before Christmas is not a good look. I have first-hand knowledge gathered as recently as yesterday that there are some brain-dead oinks out there driving cars who don't give a shit about whoever else maybe on the road -- especially bikers. So let's be careful out there, OK?

Agree with Hitcher...no time is a good tme to die especially this time of year.
Now is about goodwill to all man not "can I score more points if I take out the motorcyclist" in some sort of sick real life video game #^%$*.
RIP to a fellow motorcyclist, KB family or not & thoughts are with family at this time of year.

Oh man... Been away over the weekend and come back to this. My condolences to the family members, friends and any one who knew the motorcyclist.

As others have said... ride safely people!!! Every one is so stressed at this time of year, we really (REALLY!) need to ride defensively and safely.

    Take care every one

People are driving (and riding) like fucking idiots down River Road this weekend.

We nearly got taken off the road in our Odyssey last night by two guys (WRX & 200SX) who wanted to get onto River Road as fast as they could from the Maoribank lights going south. Just got our composure back and some fucktard in a BMW 328 goes past us full throttle doing at least 160 as the lanes merged just before Upper Hutt turnoff, straddling the yellow lines.

Fuck this. I give up. I'm not riding the bike recreationally around here for a few weeks. It's too dangerous around here at the moment.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

I rode through there today. The paint markings from the SCU left on the road clearly show what happened, not why. I know one thing from seeing these today, it all happened very quickly... very, very quickly.

    RIP fellow biker.

Yes, I had a look this morning as well. Judging by those markings and the extremely short skidmark left by the car (there were none by the bike that I could see) it did happen very quickly.

One of the emergency personnel in attendance said that could not readily identify the make of bike. Obviously he had more important things to do at the time than inspect the wreck. What he does know was that the bike was faired, bright red, and definately did impact the car.

RIP, fellow biker. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Such a small world we live in.

From what I know now I'd say that it is rather unlikely that he would have been an active member of KB, if he was a member at all. Not that that should reduce the tragedy in any way.

Death notice is in this morning's Dom Post, seems like it was a 32 year old from Masterton. Not anyone I knew.

    RIP Biker.

I will just reiterate the message -

    Be careful
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

Wasn't Dave or I. But we did go past just minutes after the accident happened, on our way out to the airport. I was praying that it wasn't as serious as it looked. Sadly, no.

My thoughts are once again with the family and friends of the rider

PLEASE everyone, stay safe over Christmas.
