What's the story with these forks?

with the forks on this bike (apart from being broken), they seem to have external dampers or something

I think they are a free style fork designed so that the bars could be spun 360 degrees like a bmx bike for tricks. I recall hearing about this. I beleive thats Travis Pastrana. Just going from memory. Could be wrong though. I was once, along time ago.

Yeah he was trying backflip bar spin, landed it but front forks snapped on landing, One of the Nitro Circus videos shows it.

How fascinating... how does that front brake actuator work though? I can see a long brake line, but if you spun the bars it would get twisted around, though? Neat idea, but obviously it wasn't quite as strong as a traditional solution.

well all the force that is being aplyed onto that one point at the top of the forks no wonder they broke, and they break line runs down the centre of the tubing at the top alowing it to spin around.
