Ain't that nice of them!
ACC - It's where the Enron accountants all went.
Yep! I see that at least two of our Hamilton fixed speed cameras have dissappearedGreenwood St. and Cambridge Rd. My guess is that they are away being recycled and fitted with wheels and will re-appear as a square tin top parked beside one of our main highways. Just like a "Born Again Christian" with his prayer book and money box. Once again, the decission to remove these two particular cameras must have been made by a politician with half a lonely braincell, as if they had been left there for another week, they would have had tens of thousands of cars passing by on their way to the Mystery Creek Fieldays. At least a years supply in just three days from out of town drivers who would'nt have known they were there. Typical of many decissions being made in regard to speed cameras. No practical thinking and No brains.
Food for thought I guess.
Cheers

Is it possible to go fast enough on Cambridge road on a fielddays day to get a ticket?? Last time I had the misfortune to do that, the traffic was at about 30K and got slower the closer we got to the creek.![]()

Can some one come and pick up the other camera that has appeared in Wellington on State Highway One, just north of the Tinakori Rd on-ramp.
Cunning buggers though, the camera is about 300m past the bottom of the small slope as you come out of the Terrace tunnel and is just before another on-ramp.
When will we get a Police force back again?
Mike
if your goin towards a mobile speed camera at speed you dont need to slow down in a bike do you, coz theres no number plate on the front of a road bike in nz, if you go past one thats on the other side of the road he will get you tho, if its on a 2 lane road that is, but they cant get you front on if there on your side of the road
Crickey Mike on your bike it should be easy to defeat the sucker. Just get that front wheel off the ground about, say 3 foot, and you should be sweet.![]()

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

YEP - until of course enuf people on bikes do this, the government realise they are missing out on a source of revenue and ACC become concerned about bike speeds - and they decide to implement a law making in mandatory for front mounted number plates on bikes.Originally Posted by Triki

I once new a guy that operated a mobile camera. From what he told me, if there is more than one vehicle in a photo from a mobile camera then they can't sting you for it cause they can't tell which car set the radar off.
Fixed pole cameras are a different story though because they use a strip on the road to detect the speed, I am curious if the weight of my bike would actually set a camera off cause it doesn't seem to make the lights go green![]()
The other thing about the cameras, apparently the motordrive can only wind the film fast enough to take one photo every 1 sec, so if you're following a car with less than a one second gap (dangerous, I know) you should be sweet.
And then who pays for the warranty claims because of overheated bikes due to radiators not getting enough air?Originally Posted by wkid_one
Or does this invalidate the warranty?

I wouldn't count on that, most motordrives work at 3-5 frames per second.

Agree - the average pro camera can take photos at atleast that rate....remember they paid $80,000 for these.
Top Gear did a 'test' of this and I recall it took a pretty rapid car to beat the camera and about 260-80kph

Couple of points...the camera's use rolls of film that is 500 frames long, that's a lot of weight to advance at 3-5 secs. Pro cameras, on the other hand are designed to advance a small weight of film. I would suggest the cost of the equipment is in the radar system and the lens.
The top Gear test you talk of I haven't seen so I stand to be corrected on this, but I believe the UK use a different speed camera system where either two photos are taken with the same camera or different cameras (not sure which). From what I've heard the top gear test was looking at the speed you'd have to be going to outrun the second photo.
PS...My wife works at the company which is contracted to develop & print the speed camera photos.
yeah, a lot of people don't yet know about this one. It's been there for quite a while now too - perhaps towards a year?Originally Posted by mangell6
I got my photo taken by a mobile just north of the Waitarere turn-off, heading north. I was passing a 4x4 and the mobile was parked under trees on the right-hand side, camera facing north. When I was right in photo-taking position I was directly level with the 4x4. The guys behind me saw my numberplate light up so the camera took a photo (this was quite a number of years ago when they needed to flash - now they don't). I never got a ticket so we reckon the 4x4 was in the photo as well. I was probably doing around 140 so I presume if they could have ticketed me they would have.Originally Posted by Slingshot
Yeah, yeah, I know I should have seen the Camry parked there but I simply didn't. There was a group of us on our way somewhere and I was busy thinking about.....well, not sure what I was thinking about really.
