Street-fighter conversion

I'm toying with the idea of building a streetfighter.

Any ideas on a good (and cheap) donor bike?

I was thinking an early to mid 90's ZXR750 or GSX-R750

Wouldt mind a GSXR750T but they still seem pretty expensive.

I guess one with smashed fairing would be ideal, but most crashed bikes seem to have bent forks.

Anybody done this before or know much about these bikes?

GHEY! Those kicked-up tails look . Do a café racer instead .

What's wrong with a bike with bent forks, btw? Suzukis seem to have interchangeable front ends between almost their entire model range, including cruisers. Would've thought with a crashed bike there'd be worse problems than forks.

No need to go OTT on a streetfighter,fairing off,pair of lights,set of Renthals,pair of brackets to fix your lights to and find a place to stick your indicators and there`s your basic "classic"`Fighter,get the whole lot from a mail order place in the U.K.for about $250,a lot less if you forgot the Renthals and just went for un-branded off-road bars.How much more you do is up to you,personally I think the classic "get it back on the road for sod-all after dropping it " look is pretty cool,the mega-bucks creations with the back end acting like a wind-brake(must make for some interesting aerodynamics,is missing the point.Get a straight bike and you can stick the fairing on Trademe as well to pay for your mods.GSXRs always look good but I`ve seen great results with a Thunderace and even a really nice FZR600 that the owner spent more time than money on and got himself a lovely little bike for a few quid and a weekend with the spanners.Biggest problem people have here is selling them when they fancy a change,first thing everyone thinks is "it`s been dropped",that Thunderace I told you about was a labour of love but even after eventually cutting his asking price by 50% the guy still couldn`t shift it,bloody good bike for peanuts but no interest.

I agree, those bike with the kicked up tails, stoopid exhaust and a paint job by Jackson pollock are gu-ay.

But I'm not makinmg one of those, I want to make a naked bike out of a nice sportbike and some motocross bars for a bit of wheelie action.

Maybe the best idea is to buy someone elses that they couldnt sell!

Early Fireblade. They've made them since 92 so you should be able to get one cheap. It had a good reputuaion for reliabilty so even one with a few miles on it should be okay. If you want to learn wheelies I'd buy a dirt bike though. I've looped my dirt bikes enough times that I know I'll never be any good at wheelies but at least the damage done to a dirt bike is usually minor. Dirt is softer to land on too. Can take some people quite a while to get good at finding that balance point (never in my case). Apologies for this useless advice if you're already a wheelie ace.

bren_chch has just finished a '92 'Blade street fighter. Plenty of kit available for them.
