Registering an old off-road bike for the road

I bought an old 1980s off road bike with no papers. The frame number is there, and there is a plate attached that shows it was registered in Australia at some point. I have all the lights etc. Do I need some papers to register it in NZ for on road or will I have to contact some Oz place first? Or should I just forget it and set it up for off road?

I'd just use it off road, it's probably going to be a hell of a lot easier just to get an el-cheapo that's already registered for use on the road.

I would say forget about it.

But first things first get the frame number and visit the LVV guy and he will tell you if you can or cannot get it done.

Unless you have a chain of paperwork including a bill of sale from the last registered owner and all relevant customs paperwork - forget it..

Wot they all said, recently I went thru this with an american import DR and it is almost impossible without papers.

Sell it and move on, it's not going to happen.
