    Wellesly sp? street bus light/lane

Well I come back to uni and my on my way home I encounter a new bus only light coming down from next to AUT, now there used to be no such light and all vehicles could go through, and of course it is going to take me a wee while to notice this new layout but whats the legal deal??

I use the other bus lanes around the city as there is a picture of a bike in them and will continue to use my new bike and bus only lane but was just wondering the rules.

There's also a couple of bus lights on Symonds St. I always wonder if we're allowed to use them or not... Of course I always do...

To the best of my knowledge they are legal, as the form part of a bus lane.
Speed limits are just a suggestion, like pants.

I thought otherwise... but I could be wrong - I think it could be debatable if you get pulled up for it.... B for Bus, B for Bike - there is room for confusion there

I have no doubts about using the bus lights on Symonds St - they are fairly obviously specific to the bus lane which we can use. The new bus-only entry on Wellesley St is a different matter and I would have a hard time making a case for using it. Of course if someone wants to test it I'd be quite happy to write the subsequent letter on their behalf...

The Auckland City Council mentions motorbikes/bicycles as being able to use their bus lanes, but only discusses buses using the 'B' signal.. http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/auck...irst/first.asp

Looks like they haven't considered this particular issue at all...

I'd argue it would make sense that we could go with the bus lights. The rationale behind the bus lights and bus lanes the same, to increase the efficiency of specific modes of transport..

I'll be using them as it makes sense that all modes of transport using the bus lane follow the bus lane signals. Otherwise it could lead to buses getting stuck at the lights behind motorbikes / bicycles, which would negate the provision of the lights..
