Help - urgent aluminium welding in Palmy north?

Well a helpful pump jockey bumped into me while putting my bike on the stand and knocked it over. Whoops bad luck. Bad news is the port side peg mounting has snapped cleanly and its really uncomfortable riding without it!

It looks like rubbish aluminium but it all fits back together well enough and a weld should hold it together long enough to get back to auckland.

Does anyone know of a good shop to talk to round palmy? I realise im up shit creek with it being a holiday weekend, but thats ok so long as I can get on the road by wednesday/thursday.

Or even better, have a spare KR-150K peg mount lying around?

    Cheers,
    Ben

PM NudeMetalz... He might be able to help you. Else ask your local bike dealer. They might get it for a good price. These are usually the parts that breaks first and are not always that expensive.

Cheers, will do. The local Kwaka dealers (AFC) have been shut right through xmas --> new years and from experience I wouldn't expect them to carry a part like this. I can't wait for one to arrive either. Just need a weld to get me back to akl.

Go and see the local lawnmower repair place they are normaly open saturdays and they usually have aluminium welding gear to fix masports and the like.

***Do not try to Arc weld Aluminium with a standard arc rod, this is too hot for Ali and will often start a metal fire resulting in no parts to fix****

MIG Welding will look like it works but because of the different densities of metal it will be like having a glass foot peg on the way home trying not to shatter it.

If you get real desperate go to a hire place buy a rod and rent a welder. Expensive but so is a week in a "foreign" city.

Oh and most car places sell an epoxy aluminum welder. It works if you cure over night but it is not structural. eg it might get you home it might not.

Thanks all. I've got to make a trip to welly tomorrow so i'll have a go with the lawnmower dudes when I get back, sounds like a good idea. No worries nude, thanks for replying anyway.

Matt - im not too bad, been flat out navying in auckland and have just had a little bit of downtime before I head back for the next round of courses. Hopefully i'll have some time to get on some rides again!
