Ouch. Glad you're in one piece.
Going quick along Scenic Drive always gives me the heebie-jeebies. It'd be a great road if they smoothed out the bumps and cleaned all the algae off.

Quite suprisingly, I am not too sore this morningIt was one of those stupid, I've been told what to do here, but i really really cant bring myself to actually go ahead and do it moments. On reflection it seems that the first problem was looking at the bumps as I was going round the corner, and I just sailed directly to where I was looking
It takes quite a force of will to not look at the things that scare/worry you, and instead concentrate on where you want to go...
Enough from me though, time to get on the pushbike and cycle through the rain, fumes and mad drivers to get to uni![]()
Yeah, that's what I thought reading your account. Glad you're OK, Milky.Originally Posted by Milky
You're quite right about "force of will", especially where there's a crappy surface to check out. My commute each day has some greasy, off-camber right-angle corners, and most days I cock them up because I have to check the surface for grip etc. instead of letting my tyres sort it out. I guess with these corners it's become a habit, as I don't usually do it (just look right through the corner), but I'm scared I'm going to lose it. It's very rare that I can just look ahead and go for it.
It doesn't help that my first crash in D'Auckland was from losing it turning down a side street, when my front tyre hit a squashed drink can at exactly the wrong moment, and I lowsided. Heavily. Didn't even see the can till I was picking the pieces of bike up. Since then, I usually do a quick scan of the surface of corners before looking through the corner. Except on the aforementioned greasy, off-camber, right-angled bastids, dammit.
Hope your ride gets fixed soonest.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()

You`re right there, one of the things riders on advanced courses get told here is you`ll end up where you`re looking, cos where you`re looking is where your bikes heading for so,hard as it is until you get used to it you look where you want to go,that way as well you`re thinking ahead and focussing on that bit of road, taking in any hazards e.t.c. rather than barrelling along and wondering why you`ve suddenly hit something nasty.Big,big thing to learn on any bike is how to relax, that comes with experience,if you`re tensed up then you`ll over-react and your riding wont be as smooth as it should be.Best thing to do is forget about speed for a bit,o.k. it`s fun but take it easy, relax and get used to looking ahead, concentrate on improving your riding then build your speed up,you`ll be a lot better equipped to handle the un-expected,in fact you`ll find a lot less un-expected to deal with in the first place.Originally Posted by Milky
That is something I have been getting better at over the last month or so of having the zxr - relaxing on the bike and not tensing into corners... It was starting to happen more in the past week or so too :confused2 now it is back to square one...Originally Posted by moko
one thing mountain bikers do is scan through the section of track they are approaching but not pause or focus on hazards and the mind will sort out where to put the bike but as soon as you try to pick a path through you will fall off or slow down.
true.
i also heard mountain bikers pedal when they need more power.

Good luck with getting the bike back together fast milky.
I can relate to where you are at right now having gone through it recently myself.
Have heart though. When you fix it up and go for that first ride... its like having sex for the second time, and not making the mistakes you did the first time! :P
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Here you go milky, this is a typical European Streetfighter, get yourself a pair of shades, black open face helmet or black full-face with black visor,ex-army jacket of any kind to wear over your leather jacket, practice the "stare straight ahead without moving any facial muscles" look at the lights and you`ve got yourself the Euro bad-ass look. The guy that designed the latest Z1000 said he took the Streetfighter style as inspiration.

Well i went and looked at Milky's bike, not as bad as i thought it was going to be, mainly minor stuff..... The only really rooted thing is the top fairing which will have to be replaced, but in the mean time we made some brakets and attatched the light so the ZXR is now a street fighter, and i have to say it looks awesome lol.....
