My good friend who has an 05 Blade was out for an afternoon blat yesterday and lost the front end which he said was really strange as he wasn't going stupid or what he thought was pushing the front end.

He's an ex 600 racer and is quite experienced so this isn't a 'learning mistake'. He thinks he may have hit some cow shit or something along those lines.

He bought the Blade recently and it was absolutely mint. Check out the pic! He's a lucky man. Have fun out there guys, just be prepared for situations like this. Protective gear saved his ass so wear your leathers, gloves, boots and Helmet at all times as you never know when you'll be sldiing down the road.

Jesus, glad he's OK!!! Good points re the protection, I cringe everytime I see someone go past with no gloves, shorts, etc! Cheers!

Did he go and get his ankle checked out like I said he was to do?

I came along just after this had happened...first on the scene after the accident... and helped move the bike into the ditch more..... petrol pouring out, then the oil gushed out, including the (green) water from the radiator was everywhere...

So it was a no smoking area.... !

Yep he is a very lucky man........... the powerpole took a good hit from the front wheel of the bike.......

Yep the bike is well an truely written off....... nothing left of the front of the bike


It didnt help that another bike just like this one came along..... just to rub it in a tad as to what his bike looked like.


Some kind driver who past by and never stopped called the emergancy services...... !.

Fire brigade arrived....... lovely folks and they taped off the bike....... and set off the bike alarm..... they stopped the ambo from arriving....
but a very nice copper arrived and looked and said mate no injuries to anyone else...... no charge...... just gives ya name and details....... then he said Fark you are one lucky dude when he took a closer look at the bike.

Bike arranged to be picked up and gone within a few hours.

A number of riders stopped, but a few just rode on by....

His leathers did the job as he slid along the road following his bike........ just a bit of patching up on the left arm.... said to take it to Kerrie on K'Rd and she will fix that up for him.

His screen survived in one piece but not attached to the bike...
Only the wires and tubes were holding the front end to the rest of the bike.

So lets all ride safe out there.......

Man... looking at that bike he sure is lucky. Glad your mate is ok... shame about the mint bike but they are replaceable, mates are not.

Very glad to hear he is OK after looking at the bike. I'm guessing he is insured so he should have a new bike in no time, assuming insurance covers this sort of thing?

Hmmm every time I see something like this it makes me think is my protective gear good enough. I'll have a look around the forums for some recommendations.

Yes he said the bike is fully insured.........

The bike only had about 5000kms on the clock.....

The only injury he had was his ankle..... oh a wee cut on his finger after dragging his hands along the ground.

So new gloves, a new helmet and a new patch on his leathers is what he will have to get oh and not forgetting a new bike.

Maybe it's just me, but everytime I see something like this it makes me wonder if having great protective gear makes people feel a bit bulletproof?

AND.... I will say it again too. Wear the best gear you can afford. I slid down the road for ages but my leathers are going to see Kerrie today for some minor stitching. Apart from some scuffs on the back, bum, arms and hip they are good to go again.

There is no substitute for a decent set of proper gear. Imagine sliding down a chip road on your bare skin

I read somewhere that you loose a 5mm of skin and meat for every second you slide on our chip roads. Think on that if you aren't wearing any protective gear.

Sorry to ramble but there's too many out there saying it won't happen to me.

was there anyway of checking out that front tyre to look
for evidence of what may have caused the front wheel to slide out??

Or was there nothing left of the tyre?

Indeed, this makes me begin to think it is worthwhile investing in a set of leathers for dedicated riding days and keeping the Cordura for commuting.

Just had a word with him, he had to brake after some creature ran out in front of him, locked the front tyre and front end slide out.......lucky he did brake cos if he'd gone straight he might of hit the power pole himself!!!!
