is your bike a "modern" zx10? (ie; zx10r)
if so, the timing is retarded in the first 4 gears so a TRE will make a difference. It will make it smoother and "keener".

EDIT; yours is an older one innit..... sorry, please ignore the above

no your bike is limited in the first 4 gears, aka you don't get the full hp at under 1/2 throttle per say, this unlimits this by telling your bike its in 5th gear, and will also remove the speed limiter which set at 298km/h or something silly like that

they retard them in fact to stop the stupid american kids buying them and killing themselfs, not a good way to do business, since you don't have repeat business, you just want th em to crash, and not die, so you can on sell parts etc.

the gsxr have been doing this to there bikes for years, but there work around is alot simlar than the kawasaki mod

Another reason they retard the ignition is to lower the HP for different markets.

You can buy ignition advance kits, where you pretty much unbolt one plate and bolt on another.

Read more at the factory pro site.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

So it is. Just they're depreciating well as RG's are going up in value, which is making the temptation of getting one even stronger. I know it's stupid but it would an awesome time before I hurt it/myself

Ummm. I'm pretty sure that TDC is top dead centre, and the pinky monkey is the little feller that keeps dropping the little steel marbles in the motor when you wind on the power with too much advance (pinking).

I think what Stephen meant was "Advance towards the pinky monkey, then back off a tad..."

So what actually happens when you retard or advance your ignition... I know the spark is triggered sooner on retard and later in the advanced stage.
