Hi guys. At the moment im riding a Suzuki Fxr150 and i've been looking around at some 250's, and can any one tell me if it's worth upgrading to a bike like a Honda VTR250 or something else
No it's not worth upgrading.
Save your money for the 600.
..........
I am assuming you have your restricted... so how long before your full... if you have full license then for the longer trips a 600 maybe a little comfortable for this, but the VTR250 should be able to handle it as well... I use to regualy go from auckland to Napier on a gn250 as well as a cb250
It all depends on your situation. I decided to upgrade to a cbr250r from my Kr because its my only form of transport so I wanted something with a bit more power. Also 250's seem to have other benefits like mirrors you can see with, the bigger screens to tuck in behind and a larger tank although it may just be the Kr that has a small tank.
Then again the unreliability of a two stroke was a big factor for me which isn't a problem for you.

Yea I'm upgrading my Fxr for the same reasons as Bungy there are alot of benifits that 250's have when you think about it.
As well as that bit of extra speed which could come in handy(Fxr's arn't exactly quick when going 100 or so if you can read it on the skrewed spedos)
Also when you do get a 600 it wont be as big of a jump and chances are you will get pretty much what you pay for the 250 provided you buy second hand due to the high demand from.......Us
Yeah, I upgraded from my fxr150 after I'd had it for 3 months. I knew it was only another year till my full (I got my fxr150 3 months after I had my learners) but the 3 months were quite long enough...
If you're going to upgrade since you already know how to ride a bike, get something like the cbr250 or zxr250, something with a bit more power than the twins, I can tell you now, if you got bored with the fxr150, you'll get bored with the twins very very soon, it took me 3 weeks to realise that I should have got the zxr250 I saw advertised when I was looking for bikes instead of the zzr250. I was sort of lucky in the way that someone decided to run me over after a few weeks and total my bike so I could go out and buy a cbr250 which I'm much happier with, of course, I couldn't ride for 6 weeks due to a broken finger from the accident.. I mean I wasn't suppose to ride.....![]()
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........
If you are wanting that little extra go that a 250 will provide, then a VTR is ideal. It has more torque than the 250 4's and there is no need to rev the nuts off it, which makes it much more suitable for commuting. If you want the maximum performance from this sort of engine then you should be looking for a Spada.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
Would a GSX250 be much or any better than a VTR250?
I've just upgraded, it does depend on your circumstances... but I'm soo pleased I did upgrade!! I think you'd be really happy if you did too, it is alot more enjoyable when you have a bit more go power.
As you don't have long to go I'd suggest to get something with a stable re sale valueIMHO
Hope it goes well either way![]()
