Help needed: Info on a 1988 Honda cd250uj

hi me and my dad have been looking at a 1988 honda cd 250uj on trademe to buy, a learner 4 me. and a little fun for him 2 get bak into riding after 20 years off his cb900.

the guy says its in ex condition and its been in storage for 11 years but been out of it for a year. it has only done 18000 ks. iv done a bit of research on the net and found out that it is a british bike so it must have been imported before the storage.

i was wondering if anybody has had one/got one of these bikes and what they thought of them. would they be a good learners bike? and are they easy enough to get parts 4?

heres the trademe auction to have a look at. (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...px?id=81710953)

    thank you

doubt parts would be easy to come by, but if you look hard enough you can get parts for anything. It sure looks nice and tidy though. Good luck

The basic motor is still in production in the '06 250 Nighthawk and parts are probably common the other Honda models. Should be ideal for what you want.

    Welcome to KB.

A quick bit of research shows the CD250u was an Australian market model also-

Well its not rare (except in NZ) and is possibly never going to be a desireable classic like a Goldstar but they are good little bikes and thats a reasonable price I would have thought??

Might wanna budget for some new tyres

PM Twig he has one of these (I think). It's a great bike.

Also, the 'ks' are most likely 'miles' being British and all...

I used to have one of those.
Funnily enough the last bike I owned before that was a CB900 too!
The CD was a fun little bike, it never gave me any trouble. It was gutless, of course, that 150kph claim on the auction is complete bullshit. More like 120kph max going downhill with a tailwind.
$1,700 for that probably isn't too bad. The mileage stated will be miles, not kilometres. I sold mine for a lot less than that, I threw in some Neo trousers to sweeten the deal as well, but I have to say that it was nowhere near as good condition and had done about 36,000 miles.
When they were new and not on promotion they were only a little more expensive than the GN250s, which are selling new for $3K now.
I have a couple of old magazines which have articles on them if you are interested. PM me if you would like them in an email.

and thats the thing.......a new GN250 is worth about $3300 and they hold their value and it wouldn't give you any trouble and will still be under warranty if it did.

Anyhow, the bike that you want on trademe is looking like it's in great condition. However, look at how many views it's had. Best to get in quick and have a look at it if you want it.
Go on, click on the pic for larger version!
