Thumbs up Newly Discovered Road to Pukekohe!

Well it may not be new to some of you, but yesterday when Drunken Monkey and I rode out to Puke raceway, by chance we met up with Vladi & John at BP Papakura. We convoyed together off the motorway at Drury, right onto Great South Rd/SH22, left into Old Great South Rd, and then 2nd right into this awesome road called Runciman Rd which is full of twisties and basically leads you right up into the east side of Pukekohe township - far better than the other two BORING routes into Puke which are always full of cages & HP!

Sorry for you who like to keep this route a secret but I just had to reveal it to the rest of KB, especially for those who go to track days as it's a great road to warm your tires on beforehand.

Btw, the full credit for showing me that road goes to Marmoot, who lead us that way home on the previous weekend as we returned from a great ride down SH22 & some spectating at Puke raceway.

Try going that route next time you're in the area - I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Map pic attached.

Just watch yourselves on that road team. It is getting more & more built up and hence more idiots pulling out of driveways or people very slowly pulling into their driveways on the other side of blind bends - dangerous road to take flat out!! I know two people who live on different parts of that road, one of which has been hit pulling into their driveway by somebody who came around a blind bend flat out.

At least now there is a more entertaining road to see how good my van can handle through the twisties with the race bike, push bike, tools and spares on board. At least it'll keep me excited before a nice day at the track.

Don't worry guys, I was only joking. I'll keep away... or will I? lol

heh heh..... FF, that road was hardly a secret. I've been using it for 5 years now and I've only been in NZ for 5 years so far

Good on ya, Zed. But these pple are right, don't use the road like using the 22. Go through it on cruise pace only. Definitely not for flat-out blast. Too dangerous.

Plus, I've seen a cop car there once too.

Hey, read my post again ppl - I NEVER advocated hooning/speeding up that road! I know it's residential in some parts and any good biker should ride accordingly.

How you warm up your tyres before a track day is your business!!

without trying to put a damper on this i just thought i'd let y'all know the following.
This road has been targeted as a problem and a speed gun will be implemented along there very soon. any speeders will be sent a warning and after a few weeks the road will be targeted by cops with radar guns.
The problem is that people have been speeding through there and there is a school. that's all the details i really know at this stage so keep cool till after school 8-).

Yeah tats at the southern end, but you can miss that part altogether by turning into Tuimata and twisting your way back to Cape hill rd and into puke that way, misses the school completly, did u see the article in the local paper Dave ?

Yeah thats the one, I was up near the scholl the other day, the local general duty cop was there, and they had one of those speed display board thinghys. Not sure if those guys know about Tuimata, Ia'm not IT-ish so I can't put up a copy of the map up to show them. Tuimatas more fun, just have to watch the slippery bits were all the gum leaves cover the road, the bit were Mr never shines.
