most people would argue it's kindof hard to care when i currently ride a GN, but that is totally beside the point. if it aint yours, keep your mits off. i apply the same rules to myself, if i see a nice bike i will go and have a good look and drool next to it (not on it!), but will not touch or straddle it without the owner being there and approving. i have very occasionally taken pictures, but try to avoid the numberplate. on the couple of occasions i have got the plate in the photo, i grey it out when i load the photo's onto the 'puter, as i never know where they may end up.

i've had little kids wander up and drool over my bike (yes, even GN's are cool to little kids! ) when i pull up, and have asked a couple of the cleaner looking ones if they'd like to sit on it (after checking with mum, of course). Had one or two sit on it and give the throttle a mild twist (after my encouragement, heheh), and i dont mind it at all (as i am there and keeping a careful eye on them). It makes the kids day, and gives me a little smile. but i always make the point of showing them a couple of hot things not to touch, and when they're done i always squat down on their level and tell them "now you know to always ask before you touch, dont you?"
i figure a little friendliness and training now might go some way to stopping that same little so-and-so going and messing with an un-attended bike, potentially burning or crushing himself, damaging the bike, and earning a whoopin from the owner.
of course many of them are probably too young or dumb to take it in, but i figure it cant hurt.

Ok... I think the lesson is I have learned here is to turn the engine off when anyone that looks like they have 'redlining' tendencies approaches. I'm not sure I would even leave the engine on if I was having kids sit on it, I would be too paranoid that someone would step on the gear lever, that could be a show-stopper.

Then at another work place I stopped parking my cage near the back door as the smokers would rest their coffee cups on the roof!

People, I swear, leave a lot to be desired sometimes. At least your joyriders could have wiped their sticky handprints off eh. Sigh.
This is one thing thats great about Japan. There are unwritten rules, and social barriers preventing people from touching Other People's Stuff. OPS is sacred.
You can go into a busy Starbuck's for example, and put something on a seat, like a handbag, jacket, or even just a newspaper, and that will be enough to deter anyone from taking that seat while you are queuing up to buy your coffee (unless I am already in the queue of course, because I don't take kindly to that bullshit).

Some bright spark turned my fuel tap to "prime" one day outside uni.

I had to wait three or four fucking hours until she was no longer flooded.

Tell me about it. In three days I had my GN molested at two of the schools I teach at. First time some (trying hard to be calm here) some year 9 shit (ooops shouldn't really use that word, but calm not working as I think back on this) tagged!!!!! my petrol tank and seat with gold spray paint, and the second time two days later, I looked out my teaching studio to find a group of seniors (another school I teach at) clustered around it with one of the girls (skirt hitched up and all) sitting on it having lifted it off the side stand. Stuck my head out the window and yelled in my roughest South Auckland speak "get off my bike" Needless to say they did move but laughing their heads off. Thankfully the spray paint was able to be removed without damaging the surfaces, but honestly to say I was pissed off is an extreme understatement. and

I will never let a kid on the bike. Why? I stoped at a friends place and there were kids around and they all came around. After 10 odd min i said dose anybody want to have a sit? BE CAREFULL OF THE TAIL PIPE IT IS HOT. Less than 10 seconds went by before there had been two sets of bare feet stnading on the tail pipe on the way to the seet. Now a 3 year old is not going to brake the tail pipe but hell i would not want to be a perent of a 3 year old with a burnt sole of foot. Luckely combined witht he fact it had been stoped a few min and i ahd not been riding hard it was cool to touch but if that had been a 600 or more fark knows what could have happened.

I've parked my bike in a shared car port at Geek's place and in the morning when I was going home the fucking thing had beer dried all over it. EVERYWHERE. Pipes, engine covers, seat, bars, tank. Unbelieveable. I bring a cover with me now. If the bike gets marks on it then, I know for sure someones purposily fucking with the bike!

Wow, this thread is a blast from the past. And I mean past! It was fun to see it again and relive the rage I felt toward the shit head that did that.

I've even had a few guys all like, "Can I try on your helmet?"... I'm like, fuck no!
My work shares a staff room with the company next door.. one day my work mate walked in to find one of them wearing my helmet with another one of them about to kick his head! Luckly for me he walked in when he did and started yelling at them or else my poor helmet may have got a bit munted.

Argh, people these days! Why do they go near stuff that doesnt belong to them!!!

I had a sad issue with removing melted kid skin from my pipe.
I was approached by the knuckle head of a parent as it is my fault... my fault he was unable to control his parasitic offspring.

But yes it is rude of how others feel it to be ok to touch our/your property.

WOW! I have read this thread shaking my head and exclaiming aloud a couple of times...

How BLOODY ignorant are some people???

I park my bike across the alley from work in a parking building. Its is locked and covered, out of sight out of mind...

Have never had anyone sit on it without asking (that I KNOW of!) and these days she is strictly "look but don't touch...infact don't even BREATHE on it"... LOL she has been blinged a bit ya see and got a real fancy paintjob.

I have to be tuff cos for some reason people wanna caress the paint! I have actually stopped a couple of people as they have reached out to touch the tank...

    OI!

Walk up behind him, put your arm around his shoulders, and then gently whisper in his ear 'Bikers don't like people touching their bikes...'. And then use your teeth to tear his ear from his head with the most vicious bite you can muster. He'll never sit on your bike again, that's for sure
