Managed to get 2 new tryes fitted last week, ran it from the shore home and to amps for its service; then today the weather broke and i hooked along with Gixser et al for a ride south; started of wet and a little drizzle but come lunch time the roads were dry, so time to scrub in the tyres... yeah right!

ran over a bloody large..humungus staple ..

Pain in the ass... they put up a new towerblock behind work a while back, right on my route to the carpark, ended up putting a three inch nail through a new rear tyre, stopped going that way since mind.

Is the tyre repairable?

'twas a metal staple about 1/2 inch long and the two ends were sharp on opposite ends.. PERFECT for putting in a tyre.... grrrrrrrr I just started to push the tyres as i had about 3 mils of chicken strip to get rid of when the bike started movin, my first thought was shit, i've been ravin about these tyres and they squirm worse than teh pilot powers.. then she started wobblin on the straights....Doh! thanks again to all that stopped and i had a good day albeit expensive

yeah Glen, i put 2 dog turds in it and 3 bottles of gas that reminds me, i need to trim the ends of and remove all the glue i 'liberally' smeared EVERYWHERE !!

We'll see if it holds, when i got to green lane i checked teh pressures and teh rear was on 18psi and boy were they hot..

Haven't had a puncture (yet) so am interested in what to do
- "dog turd"?
- Can you not put a tube in a punctured tyre?
- Is it more about the integrity of the casing after a puncture?

dog turd is a strip that you insert into the hole, normally very sticky, and the aim is to plug the hole, depending on size etc.

Yeh dunc, know the feeling... found out my rear had a puncture as I tipped it into a rough corner over 100... and all hell broke loose.

Running a dog turd in my rear at the mo, as it had plenty of meat on it, etc. Was talking to Bungy, he reckons its fine, and I did a bit of sporty 2up on it as well, no dramas...

The real bastard is resetting your head, and you keep swearing to yourself something is wrong, yet there doesn't seem to be a problem... really confusing

the turd is piece/strip of very soft rubber you insert, covered in glue, in the hole(s) and they're meant as a temporary fix. it's part of a kit(puncture repair kit bought from bike shops, comes with gas, sand paper, glue, turds and hole maker, turd inserter) I'll go into treads on monday and see if i can get it repaired otherwise i'll run it as is and see what happens... the bloody thing has only got about 150k's on it

Punctured my New Pilot on a group ride last thursday , just called up mate & pick the RSVR up then took wheel down to shop removed the tyre took it round to Trye shop & got professional repair plug with rubber foot on the bottom fitted this is the only totaly safe way to fix a Bike tyre as long as it is a hole . Then rebalance of course .

Yeah, they will tell you to get them put a proper repair in place... not a bad idea for peace of mind. Then you can ride up to Wellsford to see me for a test, I will have the billy on.
