The courts have to be lenient to make up for the brutality the cops dish out.
FFS .. this guy gets $400 and 3months loss of liscence. Cops need to take into consideration weither or not its worth chasing the guy. 6 cop cars all being a minimum of $20.10 and hour minimum. Its not worth the resources ($120.00 an hour) to chase one little punk kid on a motorbike who is obviously more of a danger to himself than to the community. Then there is the court costs (usually $130). So the gain the country gets from any of this is about $150 (taking into account a 3 hour processing time once he's caught with one person processing him the whole time). The country would have been better off if the cops fined someone going 55k in a 50k zone.

Go on, click on the pic for larger version!

Unless it's on your licence as an endorsement you shouldn't have been charged. My daughter went through the issue as she needed them at the time for reading - naturally, sitting the test required her to use them, but her distance vision was fine. Had to insist that they weren't needed for driving and I think she may have had to get a letter from the Optometrist, but it was a while ago and I can't remember exactly.
EZAS, I understand your point, however it needs to be balanced against the bigger issue. If the cops let these youngsters get away with it where does that lead too? Far too many young ones are getting away with far too much and not being held accountable. Hence they push the limits further and I have some horrer stories I could tell you about the downtrack consequences.
And boy-racers, as these two were - giving bikers a bad name, yes, elle33f, are a danger to the public. Even a 250 is going to hurt someone at speed.
It's a case of, "Damned if we do, damned if we don't!", for the Police again. Imagine the outcry if they didn't apprehend them and the boy was killed or took someone else out? Unless the sentencing is stiff enough the kids simply wont take heed, they'll just laugh it off. The other comments made here about the imbalances in sentences highlight the problem.
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.
Shorai Powersports batteries are very trick!
So to make it fair the kid should have to pay for all of the above expenses -as well as his fine too!!!
BTW: The guys above are paid regardless, still I suppose if they weren't chasing a kid on a motorbike they would be probably be doing something more useful.(Like eating donuts or bashing hippies).

" Life is not a rehearsal, it's as happy or miserable as you want to make it"
it does depend on his age, although if he is 16 he will have an FGC, and maybe not even go to court, however for a 17 year old dangerous driving/riding and failing to stop carry a minimum of 6 months disqual, so to me, it sounds like either his age has been good to him, or he's bullshitting about the penalties. as i have only once seen a reduction in the minimum penalty (in an exceptional cirumstance) i'd pick the latter.
Was at the time and the sunnies I was wearing were prescription. But as I've said on here before my prescription is small enough that even people with normal vision can still see through them.
Only reason they were even on my liscence back then was cause I happend to be wearing them last time I had gotten my liscence renewed.

so getting caught doing runners ain't too bad afterall sometimes...
This is pretty funny. To almost get away and then get caught! LOL
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot
#@4ng ridiculous. I got fined nearly that amount for being overtaken by a blue hornet. If 16 year olds are RESPONSIBLE enough to be given a driving license then they should be RESPONSIBLE enough to take the full consequences.
As for bike being impounded. Why? He STOLE it didn't he? I mean, you didn't give an unlicensed rider permission to take your bike did you otherwise that could land you in hot water
