Hi.
Wondering what the best method/product is to use to clean & protect spokes. I know that WD40/CRC are petroleum based and shouldn't be used on rubber. What other products can be used.
I mainly want to protect them from rust and oxidation.
Thanks

Mr Hitcher is the expert on spokes, about which he waxes lyrical . You could try PMing him

						Aren't they all...
I am concerned about any over spray that may come in contact with the tyres.
Heh...
I clean the wheels on all my bikes with a paint brush and kerosene, then wash the whole bike. Make sure you get plenty of detergent over the back tyre to wash the kero off.
If you think your spokes need coating with something, use CRC or similar, and apply with a cloth rather than spraying it on.
ACC - It's where the Enron accountants all went.
I used to AUTOSOL spokes.....but im a bit pedantic like that

Went over them with AUTOSOL on the weekend & then gave them a spray with CRC, but doh!!! managed to get a little over spray on the disk. Went for a short ride last night to test the front brake out. Not much grip initially, but after a while the grip and feel came back. Mental note for next time, use a CRC soaked rag to wipe them.

If they are chrome plated use crc , dont use autosol on chrome if its new , it contains a mild paste abrasive , you will wear the chrome plate off .I have had additional plateing done on my bike and from two platers the instructions were to use crc as it protects from rust and pitting.Try and store your bike in a dry situation.I wouldnt worry to much about a little overspray on the rubber as your tyres will wear quicker than the rubber will deteriate.Do you live in a wet damp enviroment on the west coast or similiar.
Cheers
