Why Ardmore was closed on Sunday 14th Jan...

    damn the man!

Hi - I hope everyone had a good xmas and new year.

First off I want to apologise for not getting the raceline updated before last sunday, which was supposed to be our first ride for 2007.

Some of you may have heard we got stuck down in Christchurch after a motorist pulled out in front of us on State Hwy 1 and our Toyota got smashed
up. It was peak holiday season and there were no rental vans or station wagons that could take all our camping gear plus all the campertrucks were
gone so we weren't sure when we could get back.

Maui helped out and got us a Britz Campertruck that needed to be returned to Auckland on Friday, so we got hold of Paulas dad and he said he would change the raceline if we emailed him the instructions. The plan was to do this from an internet cafe when we got to Wellington on Saturday.

We made the mistake however of eating fish and chips on the Cook Strait ferry and by the time we parked in Lyall Bay that night the chunderfest had
begun. We redecorated the inside of the truck with little bits of peas and carrots until about 5.00am and ended up sleeping for almost all of the next
day before dragging our sorry arses back to Auckland.

We got back in on Monday to find an abatement notice from the council ordering us not to operate the track from January 14th onwards. I have
contacted our lawyers - Bell Gully and sent them the notice. The next step is for Bell Gully to appeal the notice and seek a stay of operation from the
courts so we can keep riding at the track.

Bell Gully have been hard at work while we were away and have provided us with a detailed legal opinion on the current status of the tracks operation.

In a nutshell we already have existing use rights under the Resource Management Act and we have been advised to withdraw our application for a
resource consent. Bell Gully did this last week and are now seeking a meeting with the council to get everything sorted out.

We made good progress on our consent application last year getting acoustic reports prepared, we obtained an ARC resource consent for our sediment
controls and we were in the process of applying for another wastewater consent. We have spent over a year following whatever instructions we were
getting from the council officers but in December the situation had deteriorated to the point where the council were threatening to hold the hearings before Christmas, whether our planning consultant and acoustic engineer were available or not.

Some of you may have received notice of the hearing and a copy of the planning report prepared by the council which recommends that our application for a resource consent should be declined.

I think that now the best course of action is to follow any instructions given to us by Bell Gully. It was only intervention by Bell Gully that got the situation under control before Christmas and I think the only way things are going to get sorted out now is with their help.

This is a good time for us to start a media campaign, organise a big prizegiving/rally and petition so I will keep everyone posted with emails and updates on the raceline.

Its good to back and I am looking forward to catching up with you all at the track.

    regards,
    John Cobb

Man has anyone else noticed that as the modern4s increase in popularity that more places are gettign shitty about noise?

God dam fun police. this just reminds me of the bloody speedway hoo haa that had similar issues. Dickheads that move to an area and start complaining about noise when it been there for how long?????

Yeah the track should be two stroke only in my opinion. Even I find them annoyingly noisy when they are roaring around the carpark at Woodhill.
But seriously, lets hope this can be sorted out.

This sucks/ Ardmore has been there long before "lifestyle" blocks even became trendy, let alone anyone actually living near the track. Lets hope the membership of the club has more legal heavyweights in it than those (complaing arse wipe) people livng within co-ee of a decent 4 or 2 stroke hiting a rev limiter.

Just like the speedway. People move in and complain about who they have just moved in next too, and then shut down the people who were there first. Why did they move there in the first place? Freakin' gits.

Sadly it is big city syndrome.

    Sigh.

    Good luck to John

he certainly provides a good service to most of the upper North Island. We don't really need to loose a mx clum in Auckland, hopefully he can find another site if it comes to that.

Cry babies or Pit bulls, whatever they are, this is a growing concern to those who run off road bike parks(and should be for us as riders) and the reason many smaller private parks have closed over the last 18months, many owners can't be botherd or just don,t have the thousands of dollars needed to finance the numerous and costly resource consent hearings.

Even after some of the bigger operators have secured the consent required
they continue to be hounded by 1 or 2 nagging neighbours ( frequently absent from their property for weeks on end) who will ring council making all sorts of unprovable accusations, which in turn will need to be investigated.

As has already been stated many were established bike parks years before the Lifestylers arrived on the scene. That seems to make little difference.

To me it is of little wonder that so much so - called illegal riding occurrs.

So please support your off road track operaters, talk to them at sign up, offer support, find out how things are going for them, ask if you can help in any way.

    my own fault really.

This might be completely irrelevant but a couple of months back I went for a blat up Ardmore Quarry road from the Clevedon-Papakura road. When I got to the top I turned right and there was a fella filming me with his mobile 'phone. I gave him a friendly wave as riding on the open road is perfectly legal if, as I have, all the reg and WOF docs are up to date.

Thought it was a bit weird at the time - just assumed he was a VTR 250 fan.
