    Superbike insurance

    Hey Fellas,

I'm on the verge of getting a new Fireblade but was wondering about insurance. Can you guys suggest a good insurance firm and, if possible, tell me what it would cost to insure... I'm 43 with 8yrs expereince of 1000cc bikes in the UK....

    Cheers

    Mort

Classic Insurance in Hamilton are bike specialists and gave me by far the best price and to top it off they organised temporary cover (till papers were signed) over the phone. Check them out, a number of people on this site have changed to Classic and saved themselves a lot of bucks.

Well, they are a little technologically inept at times (But then maybe my standards are too high).

But Mr Mort, give them a call (On the phone) their deals will be hard/impossible to beat.

Also join the Honda Riders club ( www.hondaridersclub.co.nz ) and get a quote from them. Actually, I think if you buy a new Honda you are automatically a member for a year or two...

Yep I'm with Mr Hitcher on this one, I was with AMI to start with and Kiwibike cut my costs in half.

If you are you going to buy a NEW Honda then it may pay to ask the dealer about it because they have deals for new bikes. A few days before I bought my VTR1000, I all of a sudden remembered - "Oh shit, what about insurance?".. I had saved enough to buy a bike up to about $16,000 - 17,000 and was going to strut into the shop of my choice and simply slap over the cash and ride off on a new bike of some make/model. I decided on a VTR because I hadn't ridden a bike for some time and wanted a tame bike with usable power. Anyway, the insurance companies were simply asking way too much when I enquired. It seemed that most of them wanted about 10% of the bikes cost AND they mostly considered my statistics to be the most at risk...

It was amazing how many of them said this once I quoted name, rank and serial number, so to speak...

In the end, the shop that I bought the bike from got me the best deal, which was about half the cost of all the others I had phoned for quotes... Honda have a deal with Vero and although I know nothing about them, the price was right, so I went with them...

Ask the guys you intend to buy the Fireblade from...!!!

For a 28 yr old, the premium for my 2005 Fireblade from Star Insurance C/O Kiwibike Insurance (broker) was around $1,100 per annum. The insured value was to $19,000 with an excess of $750. Hope this helps...

I also insure my Blade through Kiwibike at $55 per month, not sure about the excess but I think it was $800 for $15,000 agreed value.

mind you I'm a wee bit older at 34

Thanks for the info guys.... very helpful.

By the way... count yourselves lucky... In the UK, if you lived in a city and were 28 (say) and rode a new Blade you'd be looking at $6000+ to insure it.

I'll be checking out all the options mentioned.... very much appreciated - thanks

    Cheers fellas

Try National Auto Club in Whangarei.

I'd expect you'll pay well under a grand.

I was 31 yrs and had just brought a 2006 GSXR 1000 with good insurance history. I was paying 900 annual with NAC. Anybody else was quoting me over $1000. Protecta were the worst & quoted $1300.

Well worth your time requesting a quote.
