    Cruiser pipes - Help!

    Greetings crue,

As some of you may or may not know I have a Volusia 800 (Suzuki that is), and I am looking to get some sort of deeper sound of out the exhaust, except I'm broke and I cannot afford a new set of pipes at all. Can anyone recommend someway in which I can 'beef' up the sound of the pipes a bit without going over the top? I'm not looking for the "hey everybody look a me on bike" sound, I'm just wanting my sound to be a little deeper, any suggestions will really help.

    Cheers

    John

Hey man. I'm not familiar with the design of the Volusia pipes but if they are anything like my Vulcan pipes you may be able to remove one of the inner baffles, which will open up the sound and allow exhaust gases to flow more freely.

Here, for example, is a link to the standard procedure for de-baffling a VN800. This is what I did with mine and it made a world of difference. I don't know if there could be any issues with your machine arising from debaffling the exhaust such as leaning of the fuel mix causing higher combustion temperatures but it might be something to check out. is your machine fuel injected or carburetted?

I would also do some hunting on the net to see if there are any Forums or websites dedicated to the Volusia and modifications for it.

Otherwise go talk to the guys you bought the bike from or even the workshop at AMPS

    Thanks for the feedback guys,

I had a look at intruder alert and found this thread (http://www.intruderalert.com/cafe/in...&topicID=92070) which explains that I should drill 8 holes in each exhaust at the back of the exhaust, this kinda worries me a little as it can be permanent, although I could bolt them up if necessary.

Has anyone here ever drilled their pipes? It seems to be the norm in the USA if they haven't already moved over to V&H, Cobra etc etc.

Previous owner did that to the can on my FZR, easy to fix if you decide thats not the way to go. I used plastic weld butgetting it braized would also be easy

Hi all, found a PDF on VolusiaRiders.com which shows a pattern/s for drilling into your stock pipes, I'm going to try this out, if all else fails I'll have to fork out money to gets decent pipes.

I'll create a picture diary of this modification and post it up here for all to see.

    Cheers
