The Romans developed the straight road so that they could fall asleep at the controls of the chariot, shave, read the daily chiseled tablet of "news", or any number of other things whilst on the way somewhere. Things really haven't changed...
I must take issue with your signature line.
The Romans drove their chariots with verve and aplomb. It was British bints like Boudica that were guilty of driving in the manner you claim.
My parents met this guy on Thursday at Waihau Bay (don't ask me where that is down passed Whakatane) way, asking them for directions to the nearest petrol station. Said he was a really intresting guy, one hell of a trip.
Cheers

I read about the Carnet sort of thing while investigating bringing a bike from UK - you have to apply for a 12 month period and MAY have to put down a bond for import duty and GST and it can be extended to 18 months but not beyond that.
Back in Europe we just rode/drove from country to country - no problem. It's all a bit Anal if you ask me.
hope this guy doesn't have an accident with a kiwi driver - I remember Billy Connolly complaining about drivers over here.
In the rest of the world it's not actually considered an insult when you overtake someone.
Good luck to the fella.

I just met this guy a few minutes ago in Wellington, at bottom of Cuba Mall - any Wellington KB'rs should watch out for him today. He is a Deaf Mute so be aware of that if you approach him. If you show an interest like I did he will communicate with you by showing you different little stories on paper, and photos etc. I gather he is going to do the South Island next then off to Japan and then home to Russia.
pretentious moi?
I saw him in Vivian St yesterday, that bike has seen alot of action.
Just had a "chat" with him as well at bottom of Cuba Mall.
really wish I had a Kiwibiker sticker on me. (chucked him some $ for petrol though)
He's currently outside of KFC in Manners mall.
I passed him on the Wairoa / Napier road on sunday afternoon. Quite a sight. He was moving slowly, as you would expect with all that gear.
