Aluminium fuel/oil tanks - custom-made

Any one know of someone that could make up a custom aluminium fuel and oil tank? I want to get something made similar to the picture here. It might have to be loosely based on the tank I have now as I can't find plans for one of these tanks anywhere.

Any sheetmetal place is a good start. Mooch around till you find one into custom bits n pieces. Some places are only interested in paying the bills, move on till you find one that's quite keen, they're out there. Hi-tech Sheetmetals here in Chch, Clinton, he might be worth a call.

A few makers down in scotland and england so might just have to stump up the freight and get them sent over.

There's a couple of companies here that do major vehicle restoration, one building D type jags etc. A lot of this work involves hand beaten aluminium so it may be worth a hunt thru the classic vehicle restoration stuff.

Of course I could be completely wrong but at least I have contributed to the confusion...

I have a complete set of molds, ie tank cover [note, the original steel tank hides underneath],seat unit,dual seatbase,front mudguard & 3/4 frame mount fairing for a Dunstall CB750

I can also do CR750 figlass replica tank ,seat & fairing. Id need the frame here in Christchurch though to fit both the Dunstall & CR parts

Hey eurodave, thanks. Just working out which way to go at the moment, I'm thinking aluminium now as I won't have to treat the tank or get it sprayed and would look very trick with just polished alloy. I've heard some mixed stories about using pump gas in fibreglass tanks on some of the Forums. Don't know much about it myself. How long do you think the finish would last on a fibreglass tank? Including labour and transport of the bike It might get to be pricey.

Ive been making figlass tanks for well over 18 years & overall they last well when sealed with the right stuff....I think youll find an alloy tank will be a lot dearer than going the 'glass route even including bike transport to CHCH.BTW A mate recently got his alloy Guzzi tank from the US & it ran him,including freight/duty/GST ,well into 4 figures. Also the guy @ the Tank Shop does a brilliant job, he just takes many months to do it

I think you're right there Dave, I found another site with some nice stuff on it - discovolantemoto.co.uk , I was also after some Raask reasets and clip ons so I thought I'd try and get the lot from one place. They said the last time they shipped something out here it cost more to ship than the goods were worth - it would be cheaper to fly over and pick it up. Damn.

Roughly how much do you think to do a tank and seat if I can get the frame to you? Thats probably a bit of an unfair question to post but just a guestimate would be Ok to give me a rough Idea. I like the CR750 tank and seat idea, could almost make it into a fake replica.
