Ok ok ok, I can't keep a straight face anymore No, I was just practicing a little leaning in. I think it will be a very, very, very! long time before I get a knee down, if I really wanted to that was, seems like an unneccesary risk. I found this pic on the net, which shows what could be done, with skill and big cajunas (spelling?)
    That's an 02-03 R1 isn't it?

If so you will find it easier on yours than the 02-03 R1 by a long shot. They have lowered the rearsets and raised the bars on the 04 in the interests of providing a more 'touring' like ride - shame really.

The R1 is a simple best to get your knee down on as the geometry is such that it lends itself to it easily. I found it easier on my 02 R1 than on the VTR.

There's a thread about "tankslapper" clear film, not sure if you saw mine on the 1000 on Saturday - I'll try to find the thread and post it here.

Don't you mean "04 R1 Tourer" For those that don't know him, Mr SC ranks up more long distance miles than Air NZ. And what's wrong with your real name. Must be a lot of crims on here hiding their identities. I was surprised on Saturday to see you didn't have the panniers and pack rack fitted! Standard R1 kit.

As a question - was that your old R1 in Sawyers with the absolutely obscene number of km's on it?

You should find the new 04 more of a tourer anyway - and the footpegs are lower, and bars higher - shit, it is nearly an armchair (you can thank fat yanks for those changes)

My question re the year - related to the pic of the guy draggin his knee, not your bike - as that actually looks like a 02-03 not an o4. As I said, given the lower pegs, draggin the knee will be easier on the 04 anyway

    No, no, no!!!

You guys are getting your R1 riders mixed up. Let me enlighten you.....

    Mark:
Bugsplat is who you are thinking of, not Stonechucker. Bugsplat's old black/silver R1 with about a million kms on the clock is in Sawyers. Bugsplat's already done about 10,000kms on his new R1 (a bit of an exaggeration, but I'm sure he'll correct me ) Bugsplat needs a carton of milk so goes to bloody Napier to get it (note: he lives in Newlands). Bugsplat has a fish slice by the instruments on which his Escort lives.

Bugsplat and Stonechucker have identical bikes (both red 04 R1's), with sequential numberplates.

Bugsplat and Stonechucker were both at the top of the hill on Saturday for a while - it was great to see their bikes together with their numberplates one number apart.

(apologies for this post Bugsplat, got the Big Sister syndrome again and couldn't help myself.......)

Thanks Lynda. I rest my case- USE YOUR OWN DAMN NAMES or wear alternative name badges in public!
Identical bikes with sequential plates- well fancy that happening again.

Guilty. But the only obscene thing about thing about trading a 2 year old bike with a little over 70,000 K's is what it wasn’t worth at the time (no I wont tell you what that was!) but on a per k/m rate the depreciation rate wasn’t too bad.

    RE Plastic stuff

    Hey Stonechucker,

Cool looking wheels man. I've seen the plastic stuff go on. As Zed said, get it done professionally. My buddy got the front of his new HD tank done. The guy sprayed the tank with water (mist) and stretched the vinyl over and around the curves. Stuff basically dissappeared. Took a little while with a wee squeeggeeeeee..... deal making sure all the air was out. Really good deal. I'll be getting mine done soon. Got thicker stuff on my headlights on the truck. Damned Nissan headlights are $400 a pop.(Which is what happens when stones get chucked up at them) Get that from Novus or somebody similar.
    Keep the shiney side up.
    Cheers :spudwave:
