There's an old dude, in his '50s I guess, who rides a red ZZR-600 near where I live. He's got an open face helmet, sneakers, t-shirt, no gloves, and shorts.
Not that it bothers me, but when (not if) he crashes/comes off and gets really hurt, the insurance premiums will go up, and it gives all the "bikes are dangerous" crowd another excuse to either raise the prices/axe the LAMS scheme, ans raise insurance premiums. I wish you see the guy, he has this really arrogant expression on his face.

By contrast, there's also a young rider who has a CBR250RR. He goes past wearing his blue/white race leathers and full gear, no matter what the temperature.

This would have to take the cake............

This afternoon saw a scooterist (yeah I know bagging one of my own!) with a pillion wearing a short skirt, NO HELMET and he's texting through an intersection where he did not have right of way!

Maybe he needs to book a bed at A & E now - should there be anything left of him or her for that matter.

I love it when the pillion wears a short skirt - it should be mandatory (providing she isn't a swamp donkey)

WTF? I cant smoke, since I have a full faced helmet, but I text while I'm ridin. Whats your problem with it? No worse than doin it while ya drive, except it takes longer cos ya have to use your left hand.

my dad fits that description. used to ride in that exact type of clothing. in all his years of biking, he only binned once, some 20 years ago.
he doesnt ride any more...not even when i throw the keys at him. its sad, cos he loves bikes, but hes just getting beyond it.
so maybe your guy has already binned, and he may not have another accident.

What I don't understand is people in cars who wind the window down when they are smoking and hold the cigarette up to the window in between puffs...WTF? I thought you bought smokes to inhale, so why the avoidance technique....?

You mean Kiwi's.. they're not just in Auckland Patrick, It's been known for them to be seen all over the north Island and some parts of the south island too... in fact there driving down there is worse

I wore my boots, jean shorts and helmet home after picking the bike up last week, when i stopped at the ligghts i sent a txt, i'm not agile or quick enough to roll a smoke in the time it takes for the lights to turn green.. unfortunately.

I did burn my thigh on the engine cover tho :angry And when some guy in a van wanted me to do a wheelie, cos it was wet, i ended up just spinning the rear up. ( Probably a god send really, save the embaressment of 6 inches )

Spotted this wannabe racer a while back. Full leathers, boots, silly open face helmet and NO GLOVES. Bloody idiot. Who the f#*&k does he think he is.
    Anybody on here recognise him.

Then you get the plain funny...

A guy wearing helmet, gloves, leather jacket, trousers and JANDALS.

Was riding a Triumph so that explains it I suppose.

Geeez I didn't realise this would cause such debate!

It just goes to show that there is so many varying opinions on what constitutes an appropriate amount of safety gear while riding inner city.

Mind you in my own experience I broke my little finger in 3 places by coming off my bike about 100m from home while being fully kitted out, so who knows. I just don't wanna take the risk and lose the skin of my legs/arms/face/arse etc and my post was more b/c I found someone smoking while riding highly amusing as well as a little stupid.

    Carry on

lol....i work less than 5 mins from a high school, and get heaps of kids on scooters after it lets out. quite often see the boys zipping past, no hands on the bars, gesticulating wildy to their mates. i nearly flipped when i saw one doing that while txting. maybe im jealous, cos i cant have both hands off the bars on the real bike. lol.

LoL, a cyclist can easily get the jandals caught in his wheels and go head over handel bars. Also a cyclist is exerting more energy etc and would probably die of heat exhaustion if they wore protective pants. But they suffer big time if they bail.
