Bike vs car, Albany last night (25 January)

Was heading to the movies lastnight when i came across a bike vs car accident at the Upper Harbour/Albany Highway lights. Was a new (brand new) GPX250, rider was middle aged woman. Her husband came back shortly after wondering why his wife hadnt made it through the lights.

The person in the car (young boy racer type) pulled a u-turn and 'didnt see her'.

The lady was pretty shaken up, the bike only had 91km on the clock so im guessing she'd bought it that day and just been out on her first ride.

Rider seemed ok other than the shock from what had happened.

Bike had bent forks and a bit of damage to the fairings.

Anyone know who this was?

Ya need to set your sights a bit wider - there's a shit-load of all sorts of drivers do that.
A quick glimpse in their badly adjusted door mirror, pull out, THEN (maybe) put on indicators and cruise off at 30kph for 2km still with the right indicators going.

Was probably her worst fear - crash on her first ride out. I hope it doesn't put her off for good.

Well, hope this crash doesn't put off the rider from getting back on the saddle. Hope they had insurance but with 91km on the clock, they might not have gotten around to it.


As for boy racers. Was coming down the port hills this week at 12pm, came around the corner and there was not one but TWO boy racers trying to over take a slow cage Fortunately I was only doing 35km/hr so they both could pull into line but it was too close for comfort. Missed the rego numbers, had other priorities at about that moment i.e. not testing rider "air bags".

the law to remove asbestos from brake pads came too late for Motu.

back on topic, its really bad news about the accident. I hope the driver gets whats coming to him.
It really wouldn't surprise me if the lady quits riding all together after somthing like that.

I know its probably only a minority but I'm riding 10x more defensively now than I did in the UK and that was bad enough.

The difference here is that drivers drive in a kinda sleep seaside town way plus when the road code just tells you to indicate for 3 seconds (which ain't long) before moving out...nothing about not cutting someone up etc...it is hardly surprising......in UK so much traffic actually makes drivers better...okay still arseholes around but you get my drift

It'll shake you up that's for sure, but that's life, get over it and move on. If I got a sore wrist from time to time that wouldn't cut down on the fapping time.

Rose tinted glasses mate, dunno where you were driving in the UK but I distinctly remember arsehole beemer drivers and old people driving at half the speed limit on open roads.

All that's happened is you're now in a country with a different demographic, so it seems worse. Give it a few months here, then head back to the UK for a visit and you'll see it was just as much as pain in the ass trying to get around the M25 as it is trying to get along the NW.

I'd have to say the boyracers are the least of my worries out on the bike, more scared of the older and middle aged people who just dont seem to be aware that bikes are even on the road. Probably class me as a boyracer if you saw a couple of my cars, but those just dont seem to be the people making it dangerous to be on the road (during the day at least)
