Large monetary denominations say that whole thing was started by unfit parents, who hated being told they were unfit.

I have been trying to get a niece away from her psychotic mother, and CYFS have been completely indifferent to the whole thing, despite damning psychologists reports on the child, and very bad police records on the mother, and a judge who won't give the child back to her mom fulltime, as he is not convinced she's fit to be a mum.

If CYFS step in, it's usually because something freaking major has happened, so I am highly dubious about the validity of the people who say CYFS is hard line, because I know from experience that there needs to be the family version of a nuclear explosion before they'll even get involved.

Government scrutiny? Select Committees are the highest Court in the land. If a Select Committee gets what it may think is a whiff of scandal, it can subpoena anybody and demand they appear before it. Parliamentary questions? Most are a bit naff or patsy, but they provide opposition parties with a good basis to have a crack at Government policy and at the activities of public servants.

And as for comparisons with the Police, everybody has or has heard of an anti-Police story involving abuse of powers, etc. There's a big difference between urban legends and real issues of substance. The media, generally, knows the difference between the two.

CYFS - can be a bit like the IRD, in their effect on a family....and we all know how caring they used to be!

Knowing a couple of CYFS social workers, one of them, I wouldn't let her near a family in trouble with a 40 foot barge pole - I'm just amazed she hasn't appeared on the site yet....the other one is the opposite - absolutely brilliant!
Like all organisations - it's the minority who fuck up that get all the publicity and seem to set the public perceptions, while no one much hears about all the success stories.....

That's enough spin from you Hitcher. CYFS deserves everything they get and more, just like your employer.

Personal experience time! My partners sister went to a med centre when she miscarried at 3-4 mnths. She also took the 18 mnth old who appeared to have a sore arm. The Dr sent her to Starship to have an X-ray, they did both arms and fuck me 2x broken arms. Not clear wether fractures or breaks cos of age and weither done at same time but unfortunately some matronly, rancid old harridan was prowling around clutching a folder looking to make herself look important! So she stuck her fuckin beak in, and that was it. 'Child abuse' she accused and put a guard on the girl AND her older sister and that was it, prisoners of the system. The police were no better, they only made things worse and it was 9-12 weeks before they came home. Child, Youth and Family support. They forgot about the family in this case. The little one suffers from LADD syndrome apparently which has weak forearm bones as a symptom. When Starship found that out they rang asking for the kid to come back for further examination! They got told in no uncertain terms! My partner was very supportive during this time and ranks it as THE worst experience of her life. Worse than being widowed! So I understand to a limited degree how the CYFSwatch people feel. End of sermon, pass the plate.

Interesting re bone disease - I hope an apology for the misdiagnosis was made

No kids, but I got a taste of this with some finger pointing over my dog lately - it is very upsetting, striking to the heart of you and this must be mild in comparison. My car had broken down with my dog in it. Had to wait all of about 45 mins for AA. Did so by the car (outside smoking as I only do if stressed - outside so he not exposed) - dog in car happily with windows wound down on cool night. Well... these a**holes kept strutting past - back and forth and muttering at first "poor dog" etc, then every 5- ten minutes they walked by again getting more pointed angry and abusive - the last i heard before we got towed (dog in car on bsack of tow truck) I think was that they were off to call the SPCA as we were cruel to have the dog left in the car for oooh all of half an hour on a cool night! Makes you sick how ignorant and interfering dumb people can be. I bet they never owned a dog and I bet some of those cyps lot never had kids either.

Some on that website do show themselves to be skilled emotional abusers but then maybe they have cause.

Yeah well like any Government organisation it's badly run staffed with incompetents and the ones who do a really good job get passed over for promotion because they don't kiss enough arse!!! I've got freinds who open their home to mistreated children that have been removed from the parents!!! Beleive me there are some fucken sad cases come through their door ,they don't know what a normal life is!! But those fucken clowns that place them in the home don't give a fuck!! My freinds were going on holiday overseas this had been arranged over a year ago,and they had a young girl in their care, she was supposed to be placed into another home for three weeks while they were away.Cfys had been notified well in advance and even two weeks before they were due to leave. They forgot didnt they!! how do you forget a little girl??? The upshot was they had to ring around people they new to look after the girl as Cyfs could'nt do any thing till monday ,this is friday afternoon and no placement had been organised!!! Imagine how the girl felt she's in a strange home coz her own fucked up family cant cope with life and shes being bounced from home to home no wonder these kids end up fucked up!!!

For what it's worth - And no I do not work for them - I have only good things to say for the CYFS case worker who worked with my family. She was efficient and helpful and at no time did we ever feel threatened.
But thats just us and one case so .....

Wouldn't the highest court in the land be up on the central plateau somewhere, or is there an Arthur's Pass magistrates court?

Have you ever considered any of the conclusions of a Royal Commission. No doubt what so ever that they're high . High as a kite, and whatever it is must be good stuff.

You're kidding! No apology ever. Parents didn't want to hear from the homewreckers anyhow. Makes me angry and they're not even my kids.
