What would you do?

I've got the engine out of my R6, head is coming off and pistons are coming out so i can get the cylinder resleeved... This strikes me as a good oppurtunity to get some work done on the bike to make it 'mint'.

If you were in my position, where everything you could ever need to work on on the bike is accessible what would you be doing to it?

So far im thinking i'll take the swingarm out and give it a really good clean, possibly bead blast and then get it powder coated. Also gonna take the shock out and give that a going over. Possibly take the forks out and change the oil there, which will leave the frame ready to get a good clean aswell.

Could also be an oppurtunity for some weight loss to occur, but as its a road bike what can i spare that won't be detrimental for road use?

Any other ideas?

new sleave, a shop in takapuna (if its still there, on recommendation from spankme), why - coz part of it was in the sump.

Bearings?

YZF750 steering head bearings were fucked (shells cracked) at 46,000.

GSXR steering head bearings fucked at 36,000 - ok we all know why. Front wheel bearings had a lot of lateral play at 36,000 as well. Machine feels better with both done.

They are only cheap (from Waitemata Hydraulics) and easy to do when the machine is apart.

Thats in the works, chain on it atm is fine and has a rivet link as opposed to the usual split link... going to be changing to 520 at some stage, depends on the wallet though.

Good point Noel, will check em out, the head bearings have been feeling worn lately, slipped my mind though!

Depending on the year the R6 will be ally & plated. Rings from plated bores often don't like steel liners so careful when swapping.

Oh hold on, if you've found a piece of it so it will be earlier sleeved.

There may be a ready made sleeve from Wiseco, Ape, or LA sleeve company. Std will have scallops arches on the sides of the bottom like the YZF750, but fairly easy to machine I guess. Many others NZ like Collier or there was another crowd who advertise in Steve Greens MC marketplace mag, erm, Boss eng?
