0.27, 0.26, 0.22 then it accused me of cheating, so I turned it off.

interesting question here --what is a realistic normal human reaction time?

I remember from some science tests that it depends on the stimulus. For example this test is testing your reaction time from when you see somthing. The time would be quite different if the reaction was to click when you heard, or felt something.

Not that this answers your question at all! But interesting all the same!

I kept getting 0.21-0.24. I'm on the second glass of whisky, though.

I remember a quarter of a second being the average time for most individuals to pull a pistol trigger on a pop-out target. Can't remember where I got the figure.

Most traffic-type studies suggest real-world reaction time of around 1 second. Hence the "two second rule" for following distances - 1 second to wake up and 1 second to avoid the vehicle in front.

.261 about 10 times in a row. that's 10.6 metres at 100km/h before you've realised the change, another .261 sec to react, another 10.6 metres.....shit, that cow/tractor/pajero's coming up fast....

I remember watching this show, can't remember what it was called, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson (but I didn't hold that against it). The subject matter IIRC delt with among other things reaction times of motorsports people, and the false view that because of the speed etc involved these guys must have super human reaction times.

Clarkson at one point was playing the hand slap game with Michael Schummacher. What it showed was that these guys have in general very average reaction times. There super-human like skill doesn't require reactions. They are able to do what they do via second nature, therefore think about things like where they are on the track, race stratigies, etc.

I think you'll find what seperates the Rossi's of the world from the rest of us is, we rely on reaction times to get ourselves out of situations, where as they (through natural skill, and or training) have already reacted instictually before having to conciously think of what to do.
