    Fricking bike wont start!!

    OK BKE IS A rm 250 (96)

I've cleaned the plug, air filter, adn carb out.

if it does start it will run for about 5 - 10 secs, then die.

the gas is about 3 weeks old that is sitting in it, but that shouldn't make it die if it's running should it?

My leg feels like jelly now......

    I'm off to the speedway!!!!

    .

have you checked your filter in the fuel tank/line or maybe theres water in the tank from washing it last time.
try replacing the plug(cheap investment,i fell for that one:slap: )it may be a dud.
maybe the plug cover cracked, shorting on the head?
if all else fails hit it with a hammer ,wont fix it but youll feel better

Yeah teh plug was fouling a bit. So I cleaned it up and it was a nice big blue spark.

I'll drain teh gas and see how it goes wioth some fresh stuff.

teh plug is as good as new and only run about 5 hours

id still check over your carby again i had the same prob with my tzr just turned out both carbs had the smallest little bit of crap in them cleaned that out and it fired straight up no problems since ....

usually with these sort of things it is a fuel problem as with most problems with bikes.....throughly check it has fuel...check carbs and check spark ..general rules really then you start getting into the tricky stuff

so yeah id just double check those carbs mate because mine wasnt filling the bowl fast enough so the tiniest bit would go in it would use that then die then by the time you fired it up again it had got a little bit in it enough to just get it started and so on so eventually pulled the carbs to pieces cleaned them out extremely throughly(ok so i can't spell lol) and it worked fine ...

drain some fuel out your carb bowl drain and see how much comes out because it may be filling the bowl too slowly ...thats the easiest way to check before you goto the hassle of pulling it to a million pices

also check your fuel tap hasnt got same crap blocking it's flow very rare but it does happen because gunk can sometimes seap through the in tank filter

hope something in that can help you out

    Cheers: MA

I've found that if you start looking at new bikes then your old bikes senses it and starts behaving properly again. Might be worth a try.

oh yeah I should say too, that it's being a real wanker to start as well. I have to kick it over about 30 times to get it to go (when it feels like going) and then will run for 5-10 secs.

I'll do teh fuel tomorrow and see where that gets me....

try cleaning the carb again as suggested above, but check for blockages in either the pilot jet or emulsion tube.

if your getting through a few plugs & they seem to foul quickly, what heat range are you running ? you could have too colder grade plug in there

    1996 rm250 not 1998 ?

you know how you were told the bike was a 98 and its a 96, you didn't by chance buy it off the scamster Rachell011 on tardme. that trader is constantly advertising bikes about 3 years newer than they are

on topic, it does sound like fuel, check your carb vents are not blocked and theres not a bit of shit stuck in the needle valve, a way to test if its defiantely fuel is spray engine start into the air filter once u get it running, it should run until you stop spraying.. if it still cuts out its not likely to be fuel

Have you taken your bike over any sweet jumps?
