wind/engine/exhaust noise isnt that loud. Though i must admit my new shoei is far quieter than my old cheaper helmets were. I could understand wearing plugs while watching racing, that can be pretty ear-busting loud sometimes. But you got to love the way those big drag cars shake the senses when they launch.

They are excellent IMHO. I speak from years of experience wearing various plugs in a band, and more recently on bikes.

Yes, they take a couple of weeks because they get sent overseas (more in fo on the site) but the price is competitive, the quality is excellent, and they're guaranteed and all that.

Yeah...... 15 mins at motorway speed will start to damage yer hearing.
Admittedly, a good helmet cuts the noise, but it just means that you might have say an hour of travelling before you start damaging your hearing.

I plan to be able to hear my grandkids making fun of 'ol grandad, thus i wear plugs when drumming or biking.

But it is the individual's choice!

    Custom-made earplugs

Stop the noise!! Have a quiet ride, yet still hear your motor. See you at Paeroa for earplugs, made on the spot, to fit your ears only. The best $65 you can spend to compliment your gear. Or for $210 we can fit wires to go into your ipod, mp3, etc. Sue

And if one isn't at Paeroa, how does one avail oneself of such earplugs?

I have problems with outer ear infection (read: gets very very easily infected) and excess ear wax. will these be suitable?

Just in case you're wondering, yes I am serious.

I've found that a lot of commonly available ear plugs are unsuitable because of the problems and they never seem to fit my ear well...

$65 - are you serious? the last time I was thinking about custom ear plugs they were near 200 bucks...
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

Tinitus isn't fun. The wind noise on a motorcycle can easily cause permanent damage. Ear-plugs just take the noise down to safe levels. You still hear the bike. In fact, I'd say you hear the bike more because they seem to take the edge of the wind noise.

I bought a box of 200 pairs of orange ear plugs for about um....50 bucks 3 years ago and am just getting to the last dozen. You're not meant to reuse them but I clean mine in antiseptic solution. But a pair of each type of cheapo and find a type you like.

RIDE magazine did tests a few years back and concluded the custom made ear plugs weren't significantly better in terms of noise reduction than the cheapo ones.
