    I give up

I've seen a lot of stupid behaviour on the road, but the woman in a Beemer on Saturday takes the cake.
We're following her along Balmoral Rd in the right lane, when a Commodore turns left out of a side street into the left lane alongside her. (As he's entitled to do)
With the reactions a a sloth on valium she sees him when he's almost ahead of her car and swerves entirely onto the wrong side of the road, almost into an oncoming car.
Someone please raise the fines for this stupidity to umpteen squillion dollars so that this bloody Govt will order the cops to do something about it.

Amen! Preach it! Plus tar jets for cages that sit right up ya date, extendable side batons to whack cages that drift into your lane as you pass, and Napalm... just because.

Left turners are not so bad. But I must admit that I get freaked when someone hangs a right into the right hand lane when I'm in the left. You tootle along, see them , see them pull out and start to turn . Now , in a logical world, I would assume "I am in the left lane.. The right lane beside be is empty. This turning car will turn into the empty right lane as he is allowed to do, and all is well".

BUT- 40 years of experience immediately starts ringing warning bells, sounding a very large hooter, letting off Congreve rockets , winding the klaxon , and generally bellowing "YES YES ALL VERY WELL. *IF* REPEAT *IF* HE DOES STICK TO THE RIGHT LANE. WANNA BET HE'S NOT GOING TO PULL CLEAR OVER INTO THE LEFT LANE COS IT'S AN EASIER TURN". Too many years, too many idiots, too many "oh shits", instinct slams on the brakes, and gives him a resounding blast on the horn. He turns into the right hand lane, looks aggrieved.

Sorry mate, but your annoyance at being tootled unnecessarily doesn't stack it beside me being squashed if you ARE an idiot. And unfortunatly, though the idiots homicidically bent on killing us are only a small proportion, they don't come fitted with little "I'm a homicidal idiot" signs.

The unfortunate impression we are left with is that this sort of patently dangerous behaviour and lack of ability goes un-noticed and unpunished by the police and that on a perfectly empty road with wide sweepers and good visibility travelling at 160kph is bad.

Not saying the Police do nothing about this just saying the impression we get is that they do nothing about it.

For example I never hear my mother in law complaining about being pulled up for bad driving but every second motorcyclist I speak to complains about being ticketed for speeding!

pffffft, come out east... home of shocking driving. Where people pull out of left hand side streets, onto an 80kph road, straight into the right hand lane (aka fast) and gently press the accelerator to crawl up to 50. Its not a one off either.

What takes the cake is, after that, (and I read it, so am in the left lane instead) the next car from side street, pulls straight out too. Hell, the other pulled out just fine didn't it?!?!?!?! No need to look for the vehicles bearing down on you at 80kph

Thank goodness I don't own guns. I spend a lot of time on the bike for work... and I get extremely pissed off at plenty of people. I have found myself pulling up beside their vehicle at traffic lights, and reminding them of speed limits (not the 20kph less you were travelling) and other various laws. I soooooo want to hurt them.

..on the northwestern tonight heading into the city... this huge 'bush pig' of a womon driving her 'offspring', sits in the right hand lane of the mway doing no more than 65kmph. I flick my high beam on, overtake her on the left beeping my horn and giving her more 'finger' than i thought i had on my hand and sped off. farking stupid thick b*tch.

I can just hear her talking to the cops afterwards: I was just doing my make up and he came out of nowhere he must've been speeding!!!!!

ALL kiwi drivers seem to have a love affair with the right hand lane.
I fear that Ixion's post above may be an example of being quite safe on the road really.
The scary part is where you see people using the motorway onramp and going straight across to the RH lane.... (Why, on a completely empty road??? Does the left hand lane give you cancer or something???)

you rarely see them police this kind of dangerous driving because they're about collecting revenue and speeding is where it's at

yep...pisses me right off. went out for a night time cruise about 2 nights ago. all went fine going [aside from the bit of shit that attached itself under my eyelid]
but coming back, i had at least 2 tail gators, one of which i was certain was going to hit me. headed home over the dublin bridge, which has 4 entries/exits. i was heading straight through to go over the bridge. saw a car coming from my right, guessed her possible speed [too fast for my liking] and hit the brakes. how the gator behind me stopped i dont know [i was doin 50 and that felt too fast]
same gator follows me over the bridge, and up the hill [i mis-guessed thought theyd turn left and go up SH4] i pull into the right turning lane to head home. mis judging again their direction. bastard follwed me. car coming, i leave it till the closest i can and move through the turn, hoping to get the assholes stopped for a while. hear a squealing of tyres behind me, and they are right up the exhaust pipe. i give up, and pull left, and they go flying past doing well over 50k.
this was at about 9.45pm, hence my speed of exactly 50k. should have pulled off sooner, but there wasnt really anywhere, plus i wasnt so sure they wouldnt stop as well. safer to keep going.
with the winter coming a lot sooner than wanted, i figure its time to start working on my night eyes again and get used to the headlights.

You're damn tootin' right, if we pulled them up for bad driving they might not speed - and THEN how would we get our revenue from them????

We'd just have to depend on the normal, safe drivers (Like all KBers are?) that are too stupid to realise there IS a speed limit or how to ride/drive within it.

But when somebody invents the "Stoopidriverdetector" radar we'll be in the money there too, don't worry about THAT!!!!

Ye'd better watch it scummy, if you make every one "safe" non-speeding drivers then you won't have a job..........
