    Riding in Auckland?

    Hi all,

Ok so I finished my BHS the other day and got my L plate. I live close to the hospital and was wondering the best places to ride around the area? The instructor at my BHS said to not ride on the road at first and walk my bike to a parking lot. This is a bit tough in my area though.

    Thoughts?

    The Domain

is perfect. It's where I took my GN when I first got it. I lived in Newmarket. People drive slow and few hills for the hill starts. Enjoy..

No, sounds like you're right - if you have your learners licence then you can ride on the road under 70kph (plus various other restrictions)....... Did you actually get a licence or did you just complete the course (or do i not know wtf i'm talking about)?

Pick a quiet time (maybe early morning) so there isn't much traffic about. And congrats!

Sounds like you just need to complete the theory part - you can probably do this with the AA then you are set. Give them a bell and find out what you need to take with you

I personally just got used to the suburbs first, keeping off main roads etc and getting used to light traffic. Just build it up and think ahead what places you'll end up so you don't get yourself too out of depth too early. I recommend very regular practice, especially slow speed skills - something I didn't do which I should have done from day 1.

Go and sit your scratchy test at AA and then you are legal to ride the bike on the roads.

Then you are legal to ride out there on the roads..
You dont have to push your bike to a park.

Is there any quiet street near where you live to go out there to ride on...

Yeah the street my house is on sees little traffic, which is the extent of my range so far. Just looking for ideas around in the near future. Domain sounds good.

Going to practice some hill starts this afternoon when i get home from work

    yea, just ignore renegade master

I'm sure any of the local KBer's would be more then willing to pop over and give you a hand etc.

and Hill starts arn't as bad as they seem

Domain is fun and a great road for the rookie and vet, some awesome turns on it
