I notice when I go riding that there are VERY FEW women riding bikes, in proportion to the number of men. You notice that in various cafes, top of the Takas, using bike parks round town, organised rides.
    We are still a minority.
So if girls only rides help address the imabalance, and get more women out on bikes gaining confidence, surely that is a good thing for both sexes.

Of course the girls should be allowed to organise their own rides. I know several great ladies who ride, and I'd say the primary reason they wish to occassionally ride girls only is simply that there isn't the same pressure to keep up. I mean, lets face it guys, we often have much more powerful bikes, like to ride a little faster, and more often than not are a lot more experienced on bikes.

The ladies I ride with usually say that they hate being the one to hold up the ride, and while it's great to have them along, it's also nice to be able to enjoy the pure riding without worrying whether they've fallen off, broken down, or got lost simply because they quite literally can't keep up.

And it's not as if the girls always ride on their own. Let them build up their confidence and experience, which can only improve the quality of the mixed riding.

I don't care.... But - this is why Vicki and I usually slip off on our own - she likes riding with a bloke and I like riding with her and since we ditched the intercom we don't argue much at all...

That's cos being a petrol head is a more male "type" hobby.

You don't see that many guys playing with dolls and buying makeup either but their numbers are increasing.

I very much doubt any member of KB would try to arrange a boys only ride, for a couple of reasons: 1. A lot of rides that happen only involve guys anyway for whatever reason (a major one being not as many of the fairer sex on two wheels), 2. Most guys just love seeing girls on bikes, think it's great, think more girls should do it, and definitely wouldn't turn away a girl wanting to come on a ride, and 3. See below.

And, just for the record, if there is one, I wasn't, and won't in future be one of the complainers if someone does try to arrange a gender specific ride. I've got no problems with only girls going for a ride, there are good points going for it, absence of men being the primary one! But since the thread asked for a debate, I thought I'd throw up what another point of view could be.

Let's face it, sexism / gender discrimination is always a testy issue. You have to be pretty open minded about it to discuss it openly without it becoming an emotion raged slanging match.

If the girls want to organise girl only rides then thats fine with me..just do it...enjoy it and the lack of bullshit...

If guys want to organise a specifically guys ride then do that too if thats what you want, but I'm not sure I'd be that interested about going on it..I suspect it may just turn into a pissing contest if its advertised as men only...and I think thats probably why the girls want to ride on their own sometimes anyway.

Now I think a proper lads night out would be more fun....oh, and yes..the girls that like girls are more than welcome too..see, nicely inclusive

This got me thinking. Is organising a girl only ride in open forums going against the spirit ok KB?
Or should they arrange these rides in secret, or go somewhere else to organise them?

    What do you think?
If it's a big deal to you, organise a guys only ride - do guy things... strip bar, have a beer and piss against strainer posts on the roadside.

I mean... is it actually a big deal?

    Hey Gals: suggestions

    1. Post a girls ride on the forum stating the region.

    2. Ask all interested to pm the 'leader' or organiser

    3. Check their ID and make sure they ARE gals.

    4. pm back the details of the ride.

    5. If any blokes turn up, work out who they are (i'm sure you'll be able to figure that out)

    6. Ignore the men/boys in drag in the future

Tis a pity you may have to do this but I for one would be pissed off if some guys crashed a gals party/ride my wife was involved in. She doesn't want or need the attention, testosterone, distraction, annoyance.

Good on yer all just for riding

Just because they're a girl - doesn't mean they cant ride.

Many women can ride rather well. - If they want to learn to be good riders they learn pretty fast - cue QKCHK, Keystone19, RossiGal, Mrs. NZKALT6 (sorry for the spelling), etc......

This forum should be free of rules in my view - if you want rules go join Ulyssess or some other bike club.
I wholeheartedly agree. Organize what you like girls, just make sure The Dover doesn't turn up in drag.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
