Subject: From Transit re Ulysses Motorcycle Club
Good afternoon
Please find below the statement I gave to TV1 regarding the Ulysses
Motorcyle Club. If you wish to talk to me about this, I am happy to do so.
The traffic management required to run an event of this scale is
significant, simply because of the volume of traffic on Auckland's
motorways. We need to minimise any risks and ensure the safety of all road
users. The solution that Transit, the Police and the Club came to this
year was that the Police supervised the closure of the required motorway
on-ramps on the route. The Police also managed the three main on-ramps, with
club members acting as marshalls at the other on-ramps. This worked
extremely well - probably better than ever before. As a result of the
success of this traffic management plan, if the Club plan to run the event
in future then we would be happy for a similar arrangement to occur and it
would be unlikely that there would need to be additional traffic management.
This would mean that, as in the past, all of the funds raised by the event
would continue to go directly to the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust.
Thanks
Joseph
