Bike racks

Does anyone know if it's possible to get bike racks in New Zealand that mount on the towbar for scooters/small bikes.

I've seen them in the uk and found a couple of overseas sites for them but nothing in NZ.

They look pretty good alright,but don't arf stick out the back,an arm and a leg and anything else they can have too.I saw an Aussie one for sale on TradeMe awhile ago,but his reserve was too high and he got no bites.

Most people make their own,if you get someone to make it for you they wear the liability - who you gunna blame if something goes wrong,not yourself eh? I'll be making one up soon to fit my trials bike on the back of the Pajero,well,maybe never....it's a plan y'know.

Yeah I had 2 friends who built their own, but only for buckets ie: 80kg, I wouldn’t want to risk anything bigger. Also at least one was on a 4WD with Bull bars so there was something to tie the upper of the bike to to stop it wobbling.

Thats the idea, mine would be on the back of a Legacy wagon, it's that or get a trailer, something I don't really have the room for at present.

An interesting bike rack design was one by Don Smith when he was developing the KT250 for Kawasaki,he rode the bikes right up the back of his Granada,the front wheels on the boot lid with the rear wheels on a rack on the bumper,took up little space and looked real cool.Haven't seen anyone do that in real life,it was in one of the trials books he wrote.

I had (still have it) a rack to carry a speedway bike on the back of my XE Falcon wagon. Bolted onto the towbar (after removing the towball) - very simple it was basically 100 x 50 RHS with cutouts for the wheels, plus a bolt on upright that stabilised the bike. It was fine at any speed and the bike wheels only stuck out a little bit either side of the car body. A speedway solo would probably be about the same weight as a trials bike.

After my first race meeting doing the rent a trailer thing I'd be keen on having a look a both of those and maybe taking some pics. Loadng and unloading the bike on my own wasn't fun, even though it's just a 125, especially with our driveway.
I Wouldn't be able to do it for another week or 2 though.

i used to have one. my mate imported it from ozzy ages ago.
i ended up selling it on trademe a couple months ago. i cant remember what it sold for. i think it was about $250 from memory.

Was used on my old lantra for taking around my rm125 to moto x events. This thing was primo. steering was a little light but apart from that it was awsome. no traylor, no wof etc.
took about 2 minutes to put it on. bike took the same to put on. and off u go.
would have it over a traylor anyday.

No worries, I obviously missed it. I only just thought of the idea a little while back.

what I saw that was bloody brilliant was a tow system that held the front wheel of the bike solid and let the bike pivot on the steering head and let the back wheel freewheel on the road.
