Whats the chance of getting a English speaking taxi driver who knows his way around from the Domestic airport to Sky City Hotel?
We're flying in on Saturday morning, and I have no idea how much it would cost or how far it is to the hotel.

I imagine they'll be lined up outside the terminal.
Shall I get a flash cab, corporate type one or what?

The chances of getting a english speaking driver might not be so good, but you should have absolutely no problems getting to the tower (you can see it 10 miles away so its hard to miss). The airport also tends to blacklist dodgy cab companies and drivers so don't be too fussed on the company - just check the rates if you feel that way inclined.

Yep they'll all be lined up outside the terminal, and be aware it may cost a bit to get into town - the airport charge the taxi companies to use the rank and this gets passed onto the customers..

Edit: I'd guess it might be close to $50 to get into town.....

Agreed with STR - distance from the airport to skycity is ~20km dependant on traffic you will pay between $35 and $50

Co op Cabs will get you there no worries, they will at least speak a bit of english.

I have found Corporate cabs pretty good, give them a bell, they are not much more expensive , if at all , and will wait for you at the terminal

No worries Dooly and in case you get a smart arse (who is thinking about taking a tour through Mt Eden or New Market) asks you how you want to get there:

    Pah Road
    Gillies Ave
    Motorway
    Off at Nelson

Enjoy your stay in our fabulous city

Might take a bit longer, but should be cheaper, check out an airport shuttle when you arrive. They usually know where they are going also. Ask them the cost of getting to Sky City before you get in, you can always say no.

Check the price of a shuttle before you book a cab... ($23/person)... ring around - take a look. I used 'em semi regular if I just need to go central to the Airport. They're good.

Re English speaking Taxi drivers at the airport - no worries at all. I cab to and from the airport semi regular and have only had one bad experience in ... 6 years!

The cabs at the airport need to have some minimum requirements, take visa etc etc and only approved companies can park there (i.e. much less of "hey - today I think I'll be a taxi driver!")

    Sweat not mate.

    Nah back at work now.

Rang the cop shop and they said I'd have to go in, so went in and they said don't worry about filling one in.. WTF. I don't know how this bloody system works! Why couldn't they tell me that over the phone?

So where is the update on how you are getting on with this mate?
Is the foot all healed yet?
Did you get the money from the Insurance yet?

    Update

Well.... Foot's all good, bit of bruising was all healed in a couple of weeks.
Put together this really excellent report and diagram and sent it to the Insurance company who in turn sent it to the Taxi company and are still waiting to hear there verdict.... the driver still doesn't want to admit fault! arrrghhhh!
My bike is sitting in the garage and I'm tempted just to fix the bloody thing myself with a bit of duct tape and some supa glue!

    Sick of waiting...
