    Alpert B2?

tomorrow I will be making an oral submittion to transit NZ and the project group on the tolling of the extention of the northern motorway extention
now then this is a major change in the way NZ roads will be funded in the future. My agenda is simple FREE FOR US thats it really I will represent all motorcyclists in NZ maybe you dont care today cause your in Wellington or South Island but its the thin end of the wedge.
I'll be positive and represent us in a professional manner. if you want to come along and support me its at Orewa Square small hall community center Floence ave Orewa 2.30pm I have 5 mins to spill my guts.
If we have to pay then we will be condemed to the old state Highway one or highway 16 and all those great twisties either way we win.

Goodluck with that. If you start paying from the start then it's harder to get it overturned later. Powers that be should appreciate the motorcylce in keeping down congestion and it's relatively low impact on the environment. They never seem to, though. :disapint:

Good on you, but I fear that the revenue from a handful of bikes is too much for Transit to ignore. Looks like they haven't learnt from the Tauranga toll road debacle.

Lou is right. Shit, even the Tauranga council hasn't learned from it's own experience.
BUT - I made a submission to the Tauranga council suggesting they make route K toll-free for bikes on the basis that paying a toll on a bike is a seiously major hassle, and pointed out that any potential income they would lose would be negligable. They obviously accepted my view, as route K is toll-free for bikes.
What Transit need to learn, as does Tauranga council, is that people do not want toll roads. When the tolls were lifted on the Tauranga harbour bridge, traffic crossing numbers went through the roof. Obviously alot of people cosidered driving around the long way was preferable to paying a toll.
Now Tauranga council is going financially toes-up with route K. The tolls collected are barely paying the cost of operating the toll plaza, let alone make any impact on the loan taken to build the road. I would suggest that the same thing will happen with the m/way extension.
ACC - It's where the Enron accountants all went.

Good on ya' RS,my understanding is that the funds for this road have already been alocated anyway but somebody is after a bigger slice of the pie.
The last thing we need here is what's happening in some parts of OZ where it can cost up to $10 a day in tolls just to get to the other side of town.
Mind you a car, truck, free Orewa to dome valley does sound kind of nice.
    Good luck and thanks mate.

good luck with it, I really feel for aucklanders, the cost of living up there is quite high enough as it is without adding tolls to the economic burden of the average Joe

Another article quoted a Transit rep as saying the Alpurt tolls could be used for other transport projects in Auck. All the potential Alpurt users will love that one.

I went to the submissions meetings and I am advised that Motorcycles will be FREE!
so that's good if it were down to my submission or not. at least the question has been answered so if the weather is crap we can use the motorway free and when its sunny use the back roads twisties. Its all good

I'm sorry - but I've just recieved a pulped tree letter from Annette King saying that motorcycles will be charged at the same rate as cars!
    Letter dated 30 January 2007.

She says that "You may be aware that the motorcycle rate on ALPURT is the same as for cars". I am?

I just wrote back and said that "isnt it good that there isnt that much traffic on the Helensville road".

She also said that "incentives for motorcycles are already present in lower capital costs, lower fueld costs per kilometre of travel and lower licence fees."

I suspect that whoever is her advisor is ignorant - the last is definitely NOT true for either getitng a full licence, or for licencing a vehicle. And I suspect that lower capital costs is also not true, provided you look at vehicles of simlar engine size (how on earth did they come up with that comparison? 50cc scooters versus Lexus ?
