I consider tyre changing skills to be a requirement of motorcycle ownership - learn some skills!

With respect - I suspect that's the intention of his post... I can't pass them on (never needed to do it myself) - you able to help?

Take it to a shop it will be less drama if you damage the tyre you're fucked let the pros with the gear do it for you less hassle and cheaper in the long run!

I'm not going into a long detailed explanation of tyre replacement and then have him truck it off to a tyre shop. He's got to do more than dab his toe in the water before I get off my arse to help.

What's that old proverb?.....Feed a starving man a fish and he won't die that day - teach him how to fish and he'll feed himself for the rest of his life.

I know it well - it states that you should teach someone... give them the opportunity to learn - does it not?

I think it's more along the lines of:

Give a starving man a fish and tell him to fuck off!!!

Teach him how to fish and the fucker will poach all of your paua and be living in a mansion within a year!!!

I was asking if you can do it at home with out any spealised equipment. I am learning to lots of things since owning this motorbike

    For eg
Oil, oil filter and air filter, spark plugs etc
Overhauled the brake calipers, (note havnt quite figured out how to wack the piston back in yet, last time i did it I burst a seal...)
    Cleaned the carbs,
    Bleed brake system,
    remove wheels / forks
    Replace the front discs
Inspect and replace the water pump
    flushing the cooling system
    replacing a chain
Make a new tank mounting bracket (got one nut mounted a bit wonky but it works!)

I'm sure theres heaps more that ive done that im forgetting, its all very basic stuff (like taking the rubber off a rim for eg) but im learning, and yes I would love to learn how to get the rubber off the rim and not take to the shop as I don't have much money...

The reason I ask, is that I thought you need some sort of machine to do it?....

    Cheers

It most certainly is do-able without a machine. Seen the boys at the track change them.

It just takes time and patience to get the hang of it....

My mate with his GSX400 is convinced all he needs is a couple of bicycle tyre levers and he can change his front tyre himself. I'm not so sure it's going to be that easy...

I've seen a friend change his ZXR750 ones without too much trouble. Scared the crap out of the service station guys when he blew the tyre back into the bead

The chances of me having a rooted tyre, a replacement, and no tyre changing machine is pretty slim, so not a skill worth learning imho.
