    Hi there

I'd go 30:1, and use a good quality motorcycle specific 2 stroke oil.

That's about 35ml to every 1 litre of gas. Or 350ml to every ten, or 175ml to every 5.

    Hope that helps.

Was the DT175 premix? I thought trail Yamahas of that era had oil pumps? I know my mates Dt175 of earlier vintage, as well as my 180 Yamaha of similar vintage did.

Like Ixion asked......it should be oil injection.
Failing that, I reckon you should be using a good quality mineral oil at 25:1.
No need for expensive synthetics for that beasty!

    2 stroke mix

from my experiance I've found that more oil is a hell of a lot safer than less oil and can get good power gains , probably due to better ring seal and losing less compression . People genraly think less oil means more power but on my RS125 I found the best power at 20 to 1 mix but ran it at 25 as 20 meant having to remove the head after each race to wipe of the oil residue and I couldn't be arsed doing this( it took two whole min ) 50 to 1 lost around four hp.

I'd go with 25:1 as a safe and reasonably clean burn.

Correct. I can back that up with results on our dyno with my RS 250.
More power AND torque at 20:1. Good for the crank too.
