Anyone got one of these? Seriously looking at one and want feedback.
Like the styling, motor pulls well to 200K, gearbox sweet, brakes good, has a usable pillion seat.. Suspension seems crap..er ... deficient! The one I rode on Metz Z4s understeered on power out of corners and stepped out badly up the Domain goattrack.But it could have been me. Also seems like good value for money in a nekkid!

I wheelied past one outta' Coke at Manfeild on a Gixxer 1K, but that guy's not talking to me anymore and wont let me ride his bike.

Fair doos, you'd probably do the same on a VRod! I just want a useful "practical"...(shudder) ...bike that does most things and you can have a hoon on occaisionally. - and doesnt cost 20G.Originally Posted by White trash

The 900 Hornet is good value for money. Invest in a rear suspension upgrade, put some decent rubber on and they'll go forever. A very engaging ride, even in standard form. Typical Honda gearbox, good low and mid range grunt. Nice wide bar riding position. Moderately nimble but this should improve with a better rear set and rubber. If you can afford a few more $$ you should try the Z1000. If you like v-twins, and want some trellis to grow a rose up, then the SV1000 is probably worth a look as well.

Nice enough but a bit of a let-down really,people dont want a Fireblade motor to be "nice",they want a bit of fire and brimstone like the Fazer 1000 kicks out.Not very popular in Britain and you can actually pick them up new for less than the 600 if you shop around.600 is massively popular and 900 isn`t really any better,if anything it feels softer and dosnt handle as sharply.Also there`s an issue with the chains being too short!!True,unless it`s been sorted now people were finding their chains running out of adjustment within a few months of buying new.Honda argued the toss with a lot of owners and there`s been a lot of bad feeling about what`s a pretty basic balls-up on Honda`s part.Guys sticking to their guns have got new chain and sprockets out of them but I think now they`ll pay for a dealer to take a link out,what kind of crap is that.There`s a really good owner`s web-site called "Hornet`s Nest",bang that in Google and you`ll find them,the chain saga is probably still rumbling on there.I`d go for the 600 or better yet the new naked Fazer 600,real neat Brutale-style looks,underseat exhausts and R6 motor.

Agree with Hitcher's comments. I've had two short rides and enjoyed the CB900 as a good all round fun bike at good value. Trouble is you may have to spend a few more $$ to get them right (suspension's soft, horrible handle bar shape). Bandits seem to sell better as I guess they don't need alterations made after the initial purchase. A Guy at Manfield was having a ball on one with sparks galore from pegs. Wheelie beasts aswell.

Agree, the Z1000 is a ball, but costs a lot more and the pillion seat is not! Im tired of V twins - like the frantic buzziness of a 4 (or more?) The Hornet Im looking at has Power commander, K&N's, Micron pipes etc and has plenty of low and mid range poke. I suppose Race tech springs etc in front, Koni rear shock, Renthal bars and it could be a goer!

Nuthing wrong with practical. The Hornet is practical, and is a good change from ur present steed. But, will Hornet meet your "other needs" to be NOT AT ALL PRACTICAL and be up to your riding standards ?
This is something you might want consider more. It could become TOO BORING for you ? Standard bikes can be like that.........so you must buy and ride for yourself, not for anyone else's needs. What kind of riding are you mostly doing ?
Keep looking, comparing......... IS THIS 'THE ONE" ??? The $20,000 question eh.
