Thumbs up Ride around NZ - Charity event - Feb 07

    Greetings all
For those of you that dont know us we are just ordinary average Kiwis with an interesting idea.

Carissa is 31, and I am 34, we have one daughter and we have to work together as a family starting with the very basics and work our way through this adventure through what we expect to have, many ups and downs.

What an amazing journey it will be, it will be a life changing experience for both of us, but to us the most amazing thing we can hopefully achieve is if we can help just one person improve their life a little.
We have never been part of anything like this, the closest we have ever been to anything like this is watching it on TV, but then it dawned on us, 'Why watch it on TV, when we can LIVE it?"

Please help Carissa and I in the FIGHT AGAINST CANCER.
8000 New Zealanders die of cancer related diseases each year!
We are determined and committed to reducing that statistic - but we need your help.

Carissa and I will Ride around the entire New Zealand Coastline on our Suzuki Adventure Bikes, raising money for The Hawkes Bay Centre Cancer Society and their Hawkes Bay Relay for Life event!
We are expecting this to be perhaps New Zealand's Greatest Motorcycle Adventure in 2007.

So why a Motorbike adventure ride?
We came up with the Riding for Relay for Life idea from a discussion of ways that could challenge us, and really appreciate what Cancer Sufferers must be challenged with every day.

So I can see you thinking "That's not hard to do", here is some facts to put it into a little more perspective.

    1. "Carissa has never ridden motorcycles before, and I have only ever ridden off-road".

    2. " We will complete the journey on 250cc motorcycles, not really made for comfort or long journeys".

    3. " The Journey will be approximately 7000km, and we plan to complete this within 14 riding days (we will need rest days along the way)"

Now this is what we would call an epic adventure for us, we will be way out of our comfort zone (but really looking forward to it now), and that this is something that maybe just the thing to get others out and about and exploring this magnificent country we have.
The journey is not all tar sealed highways, we detour to places like the East Coast Lighthouse (New Zealand's most Eastern Point), Cape Reinga (Most Northern Point) and Ninety Mile Beach, Golden Bay, Bluff (Most Southern Point) , Danseys Pass and the McKenzie Basin and Molesworth Station etc, so there will be lots of rough roads and dust and dirt to contend with, not to mention the bad weather we also may have to contend with, but in all reality the things we are looking forward to the most is New Zealand's beautiful places we see and people that we will meet.

Please support us as we ride around New Zealand prior to the Relay For Life.
When we finish riding around New Zealand we then start walking in the relay for Life event.
Relay For Life is a 24 hour team event that raises funds for the Cancer Society of New Zealand. We are part of a team that will walk/run around a track for 24 hours. As well as taking part our goal is to raise at least $10,000 for our local Cancer Society.
We are making a financial and physical commitment to this event - and challenge you to match my commitment by sponsoring us.

You have 3 options for supporting us on this adventure, and we would ideally love to see you all on Option 2
    1. You can sponsor us 1 cent for every km we plan to ride - $70 (7000km) - If you sponsor us for every km we ride, you will be mentioned on our webpage, as well as a personal update from us on our journey.

    2. Now we would also like to involve as many motorcyclists with a sense of adventure as we can, before, during and of course after the event, so we are offering you the opportunity to 'tag along' on all or part of the trip. Visit our webpage www.rideforlife.co.nz for more information on how you can join us. (see attached poster)

    3. We would be delighted to receive any contribution you can make.

Visit our webpage at www.rideforlife.co.nz for more information

If you are in Hawkes Bay, please call in and see us finish at Tareha Reserve (Carters Arms Park) in Taradale on the 24th February 2007
If you see us on the road in your area, please stop and say hello, we would be delighted to meet you all!

Thanks for your support, wish us luck and please pass this website link on to all your friends, family, suppliers and workmates.

    Regards
    Scott & Carissa McIsaac

Let me know if you can help or know someone that can?

Sounds a great idea, good luck. We'd be happy to let you stay at our place if you end up near Levin at any point on the ride.

    Hey everyone

Yes when the website is running there will be a route plan with start and finish places and times and dates.
Also it is for all bikes, we will list the days where it probably doesnt suit thos bikes (and riders) that dont want to venture onto gravel

We are surprised and overwhelmed by the offers of accommodation when we ride on through, this is really appreciated and wherever possible we will take you up on the offers of a bed for the night. We need to shave allot of the costs associated with this ride, as the entire proceeds from the fundraising will go directly to the Cancer Society.
There will be one or two extra in a support vehicle too (if we can find a van and someone to drive it for the duration)

Our early plan is as follows (subject to change)
3rd Feb - Napier to Hicks Bay (East Cape Lighthouse)
4th Feb - Hicks Bay to Whitianga
5th Feb - Whitianga to Russell
    6th Feb - REST DAY
7th Feb - Russell to Kaitaia (via Ninety Mile Beach)
8th Feb - Kaitaia to Auckland
    9th Feb - REST DAY
10th Feb - Auckland to New Plymouth (Via the Coast)
11th Feb - New Plymouth to Wellington
12th Feb - REST DAY and Cook Strait
13th Feb - Picton to Westport
    14th Feb - Westport to Franz J
15th Feb - Franz J to Queenstown (Up Cardrona Skifield Road)
    16th Feb - REST DAY
17th Feb - Queenstown to Te Anau (Milford Sound)
18th Feb - Te Anau to Dunedin (Bluff)
19th Feb - Dunedin to Christchurch
    20th Feb - REST DAY
21st Feb - Christchurch to Picton (via Molesworth)
22nd Feb - Picton to Masterton (via Cape Palliser)
    23rd Feb - REST DAY
    24th Feb - Masterton to Napier - 313km

    Cheers Scott
