Dumping waste oil, brake fluid etc...where?

I do my own oil and filter changes, clutch and brake bleeds.

Where do you dump your waste (responsibly)?

Until recently I belonged to a Boating Club and they had an excellent facility that I took advantage of in the interest of the environment.

BTW: Interested to know if anyone dumps it in land fill although do not expect anyone to admit they do so.

I have a large drum I pour used engine oil into (cars & bike) then I use it to soak parts in and heated metal to stop it rusting etc. When the drum is full I take it too the local landfill and they dispose of it safely.

I always take it to the local landfill. They usually have a seperate place to dispose of it.

Wait til the Hazmobile comes around to your area. Benefit = it's free, down side = only comes around once a year.

Or I think the transfer station at Constellation Drive takes hazardous waste (you pay to get rid of it but at least you can get rid of it right away). Not sure where in Auckland you are. If you're not North Shore then it would pay to check with your local transfer station.

Look for the Hazmobile - Auckland city council hazardous waste collection mobile pickup. The have locations in the local rag sometimes, or look on the website.

To my shame I must admit that the miniscule amounts of that sort of fluid that I generate each year goes down the drain. (About a litre of transmission fluid and a couple of litres of old vegetable oil is all that's gone down this year). Unfortunately karma bit me in the ass a couple of weeks back when our drains got blocked. I waited nervously as the plumber did his thing hoping that I wouldn't have to guiltily hide a small oil slick on the ground but fortunately all that gushed back out was some old turd sludge so that was cool.
    Proper disposal from now on.

Yep, it came from the ground so it goes back there and in a million odd years someone can get it back out and use it again. Its called recycling.

The local petrol station down the road from where I used to live has a massive drum / silo you could pour your old oil into. Presumably they either disposed of it properly or cleaned it up in some way for it to be reused in some application. I'd say give some of your local petrol stations or car workshops a call, at least one of them should have a similar thing.

Where can we dispose of the old oil containers?

They're not #1 or #2 plastic so won't be accepted by the council recycle system.
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

the hazmobile is in north shore on 24th march..not sure when it's anywhere else....I was wondering how to do the same thing a few weeks back and found it. it's shown on the council websites with dates.

have an 'interesting' range of stuff for them...

Most transfer stations take it. Don't put it down the drain or the council sends you a bill in the mail
