Tend to be abit cynical about what MCN print/post. Feel alot of their results are influenced by which manufacturer is spending the most on their advertising.
Aussie MC News tested the new R1, didnt read it as being a rave revue, metioned the handling had been improved but felt the engine was possibly weaker than the previous model. Alot of this fancy crap is just marketing hype and also a result of trying to keep the power they've got while ensuring the bike passes tougher and tougher emission controls.
Probably the best thing would be to own a 600, a 750, and a 1000. With the 07 GSXR1000K7 this is effectively what you are getting. The 3 way switch will allow 120hp (600) 150hp (750) 180? full power. How could you go wrong?![]()
gav recommending a GSXR?? Hell must've frozen over eh.
hope the new vmax is going to be priced ok.. anyone got any further infor on price and release date?
That bike does look very nice. I like the YCC-I thing. That looks very advanced, just gotta hope the computer doesnt bung up, that could cause alot of problems

It wouldn't cause any problems, maybe rob a little top end. Certainly far less problems than (the ever reliable) injection computer crapping out. I would be very surprised if the ecu wasn't controlling those anyway, so it's a safe bet that it'll be quite reliable. Much like injection, I expect the parts that'll give trouble are the mechanical bits (i.e. injectors, pumps, throttle position sensors, and the like).
What an awesome, gorgeous looking, fabulous, performance driven bike! Such a shame you can only do 60mph tops on the public roads.
Different matter on the track though aye?

Saw this bike in the flesh yeaterday and personally I don't like it. IMHO it's a styling step backwards. Looks like a bastardised version of an R1 and an R6. I guess it's not as bad as what Kawasaki did to the ZX-10R in 06 but disappointing none the less.
Didn't get a ride even though they had a demonstrator (someone else was taking it) so can't comment on anything but the styling.
As i recall i think they all come with slipper clutches now, for the mention of the clutch earlier in this thread.
And the claimed hp of 190 odd is at the engine and they are all pretty close. The R1 has 162.9hp at the rear wheel which is the highest outa the jappas and the suzuki follows closely behind. But the GSXR has the best torque and a much nicier torque curve by far of all the jappas. Now this will mean that the guy on the R1 will be quicker down the straight but once you hit the twisties the GSXR will have the better more powerful drive out of the corners so will show up the R1 in that respect.
Those who dont learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.
