I got my first nod

Well I was riding along proud of punch on my second ride ever on my bike, through the shady streets of Kaikohe and this big burly harley bike comes from the other direction, with an even bigger man riding it . I felt 'yeaah' who da man stornchly cruising toward me. I held my head high with confidence like I'd riden for years. And it happened. He gave me the biker nod in a firm manly manner I kept a straight face and returned the nod . Then when he passed I was just glemming on the inside and bouncing for joy for I too was a biker now. (little does he know that while I was returning the 'biker nod' in a composed manner, on the inside I was grinning the biggest grin ever and just bursting inside and giving him the biggest wave :spudwave: with my left arm going oh yeah oh yeah

Lol, I remember getting my first nod back home in Britain on my RS50. I was so chuffed for the rest of the day.

Then when I got my ER-5, most of my rides were spent imitating a nodding dog!

When I came to NZ, I didn't get a wave or a nod for a while and I was convinced it was due to my unruly tassels. Then heading down on a trip to Waikanae, suddenly I got loads of waves!

That made my day, I was bloody pleased about that and fairly relieved I wasn't going to have to take a pair of scissors to my jacket.

Anyway, even more respect for getting a nod off a Harley rider! Nice one!

HAHAHA...

It must be a newbie thing...the feeling your part of an elite group of people...as we are... that acknowledges each other with out knowing who we are....went on a nice 40 min ride today passed heaps of bikes, some waved some nodded others gave the old finger flick... a couple didn't acknowledge me at all... but who cares?...the ride was Fantastic ... a big thanks and much kudos to those who waved ...made my day!!

Kinda cool really... like a "welcome to the family"

Car drivers just don't get it, and I understand the truckies have a similar fraternal bond.

I loved it at the beginning of summer my little man (7) was talking to a big burley Canadian guy about his Harley and Ruben (Mr 7) pipes up with "I have my own helmet and gloves" and the (fucken huge) Canadian guy reached down and shook his hand with a "hi brother". It struck me he was legit about it too... not taking the piss.

I cracked up because it's sooooooooo true and yet poor Ruben couldn't understand what was hapening... so he asks "Why did you call me that"

I forget what the Canadian guy said but it was all over in about 10 words. I recall "fraternity" being in there and that gave me a refreshed view on it.

It is cool... really cool. It's a community thing that just... happens

I remember my first nod... not all that long ago either It's an awesome feeling. Most bikers are so helpful and open, coming out of the sport I use to do... it is a very nice change.

When I first started riding it was just the done thing, everyone waved or nodded no matter what you rode. I am so pleased to see the sense of community coming back to bikers.

I agree years a go when I first started.. all bikers just waved, nodded... just was the unwritten rule, and unspoken words... "Hi brother on two wheels, Ride safe, have fun"

Then it just got less and less, but ave noticed now more waves and nods in return...

LOL, I nearly fell off my bike the first time I got nodded at - a guy on some cruiser bike, no idea what sort (was too busy freaking out!), had pulled alongside me and there it was, my first nod! Never been so freaked out in my life and yet, the same as you, I was grinning from ear to ear after he took off ahead of me!

Well done on the nod - may there be many more nods and waves in the future!!

Was cruising down out to Lawrence from Dunedin on Sunday on my mates CBR (my bike still coming). Good ol' L plate suck on the back and wandering along at 100km... cages were good and mostly overtaking only when it was clear.
Coming into Milton i saw couple of guys rock up , and pull into formation behind me. Was great! Felt like being part of the team! Thankyou.

Had a classic on the eway home from work in Mount Wellington - 3 VTR250s side by side at the traffic lights having filtered our respective ways through - looked at each other and all said "Nice bike", "Yeah, nce bike", "Nice bike". Then the lights changed and we all pissed all over the cars again....figuratively speaking.

Fraternity - that is the word innit?
