Yeah well done Hitch......... I got several nods the other day from this fella...... but turns out he had epilepsy. But I certainly agree, it's nice to give and recieve knowing your not alone out there. Keep it up.

I drive an older alfa romeo (hopefully a bike soon too, got my scratchy on monday!) and there is a very similar "alfa wave" between drivers.. Real sense of community there too.

Cant wait for my first bike wave though!

lol nice thread Hitch, many a good laugh

I too got my first nod on my way home from picking my new bike up in Auckland on Wednesday, exact same reaction as you (grinning ear to ear). All the way home bikers waving or nodding

One difference I have noticed however is around town it doesn't seem to happen as much as on the highway. Either way it is nice to acknowledge each other, after all....

Congrats on receiving your first nod.

Also remember to never, ever, complain on KiwiBiker if you don't receive nods or waves. You will be crucified (and rightly so!).

I guess Kiwibiker must be doing its thing and "paying it forward". Seems most of us do the nod/wave/I'm a teapot gesture So it must be rubbing off on the wider biking community! I do it whenever, where-ever I can - anything on two wheels usually (yes, even the pushbikers...I know what it's like to be one of them!)

Just makes my day! And oh yeah, good karma and all that for the Asphalt Angel is sitting pillion and watching!

    Well done
Gotta admit I had an attitude change a while back when I had to do a rural mail drop down/around Pukekohe. Traffic blasting past at 120kph a meter from your right handlebar... SHITE!

The Posties that do that day after day deserve a medal. There's a little bike with a postal dude on it out our way now and I'll nod to him every time. Respect where it's due.

    Ahh the nod..

I got my first wave from a Harley rider yesterday, and he even used all his fingers
I've also had a nod from a bike cop.

It's the scooter riders that never wave or nod, even though I wave at them. (I also ride a scooter from time to time)

    That's not it.

The scooterists on here, they get it. But your average scooterist is like, "Um... yeah... I ride a scooter coz it's cheap/I can't handle a car/Bikes are dangerous". For them a scooter is a glorified bicycle.

I think scooters are more dangerous than bikes to be honest, most of them are so low that car cant see them and we all know cars have a hard enough time seeing bikes that are the same level as thier wing mirrors
