zxr fighter stage 1

well i decided to get around to fighting my zxr h1 as it was just an torture rack and not made for my 6'4"
here are some pics of it before




that was before i had done any thing, it was straight as, never been dropped and only 28000 km not bad for an 18 year old bike
i have also added a lift kit

first stage was to remove the fairings and get some risers and new bars, so its not a torture rack any more

then the next mission was to find a headlight that i like the look of
i managed to find one from germany off their ebay for 40euro it took a while to arrive and trying to speak german to him was interesting to say the least,
it didnt come with any lamps and no side lamp(park light) which i learnt the hard way that its a legal requirement, so it set about fitting the zxr bulbs (so i could keep the original wiring) and making a park light fit.


next on the cards was clocks
you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find clocks that have a temp gauge built in.... do people think all street fighters are old skool gsxrs and are oil cooled... any way i digress, i managed to finally find some clocks (with temp gauge) again from germany so i had to go through the whole rigmarole of communicating, luckily the guy i was dealing with had a basic grasp of english so that made things easier

so i spent a night doing some soldering, i decided to use the original plugs from the old lights on what not, so i can just unplug it from the loom if needed
heres my lovely wiring to the plugs


and it mounted to the yoke, it came with mounts that mounted it to the handle bar, but that wasn't practical as i have the brace on the bars and i wouldn't be able to get the keys in the ignition not ideal really

and last off was just to mount the light and test the functions of the meter,
oo nice and blue



so thats the zxr as it stands at the moment,
next on the cards is sort the rear end,
i have a black tank already waiting to go on, but ill keep that to the side for when i get the new seat unit ect, also have nice new black wheels on the way (cheaper than painting mine )
so all is good with the world, although im still waiting for my bleedable banjo bolt to replace the one on the caliper that i broke the bleed nipple off, on

Speedo in MPH? You converting on the fly? or does it real KPH as well?

lol, im living in scotland at the moment, so everything here is mph although the speedo does have kph on it as well
the original speedo is kph (import from germany) so that was interesting haveing to figure out how many mile an hour i was doing

payment is through paypal (free to setup and use for the buyer) and is probably the best way to pay him, he has various other types of clocks as well
i recently wired up a acewell clock on my mates gsxr750 streetfighter which is a very nice looking clock the only problem with it is the leads arn't very long and with risers on the bike the plugs ended up right between the forks and frame, so i had to hard wire the clocks to the bike

funny how when people find out im a sparky how i end up doing everything to do with anything electrical them the breaks

its probably the most uncomfortable bike to ride i have ever had the displeasure of owning,
plus its dog ugly
the plastics are cheap and nasty, far better to be with out them,
unless you were a racer there is no real need to have gay plastics, and if you were a serious racer you wouldn't have a 89 zxr750 its a tank and weighs far too much, how they ever won races on it is beyond me,
rant over i much prefer naked bikes,
previous to fighting it, just doing an oil change or any sort of maintance was just a pain in the arse

Just a little observation, but wouldn't you be better off buying a naked bike in the first place thats big enough to suit your frame? Modifying your bike seems to me like a bit of a band-aid approach to your problem, but meh whatever tickles your saks I suppose...

if i had just bought a naked bike, then it would be just like every one elses bike,
its far more fun to modify mine to suit, i bought this bike with fightering it in mind,
i have a little 500 naked bike as my commuter, which in it self is a good bike but half the fun in owning a bike is working on it

Wow thats looking great! Personally I think it would look even better with a black frame!
