Filter Oil - Whats your preference?

ive always used Casrol, ive had a shitload i stocked up on 7 years ago, which has now run out, in this time they have changed the formula, and now its real thick and not nice to use.

so the time has come to move on to something else.

what do you use? how is it? and how much is it?

What application, engine ,gearbox?

I use the UNI filter service kit, comes with spray on oil and cleaner.

I have also had good success with NoToil, very easy to clean (washing machine). I would probably still use this if i wasnt sponsored by UNI.

I heard that all the spray on oils are shit.

I found the Putoline suff ok.

Belray is the all time tackiest, and provides good protection, but is hard to apply. Motorex is easier to apply, but can dry out after a few weeks if not used. I use Motorex with filter skins, and when the last filter skin is used and if the filter feels abit dry I spray the filter. The sprays by them self I don't feel are suffiecient for many applications. Ok if conditions are not dusty or sandy. And No Toil is water soluble. Go figure. Guess I'm old school, but I've never lunched an engine.

I find NoToil is not soluble in any bloody thing! Get it on your hands and you can't wash it off in solvent,hand cleaners don't work....it's just messy shit.Good filter oil though.Actualy,if no one is watching I will just use EP gear oil,sticky as,stinky,and I've always got some around somewhere.But you don't get stickers to put on your swingarm - so you need to buy a brand name filter oil to get the good stickers.

I use Amsoil and have no problems with it. But then i have a foam filter.

Over the years I have found the Putoline kit real good.

You get one large (with a screen) and one small bucket with solvent, filter oil and filter grease.
Because they make both the oil and the solvent, it works.
You may find that it is a good idea to buy an extra bottle of solvent so you can really drown the filter to clean it.

Also not a fan of No Toil, as some people love it and a lot think that it is crap.
It could be good stuff and it could be down to how some people are using it.
So I'm not taking the risking.

NO cheesee the spray on oils are NOT shit, you just need to apply them properly (like any of the filter products). Maybe you should start talking from experiance, not from "what I heard".

If you do the filter after every ride (every race if very dusty) and do it right, you should really have no issues.

Filter skins can be a good idea as well, especially doing an enduro ride or similar where you may not have time to change a full filter.

i hjave alwasy liked bel-ray, it stays tacky for ever, it is hard to apply but with gloves its ok, i have never liked the thinner oils like putolene etc,

the putolene cleaning / oiling kit is awesome tho, i use one of these with bel-ray oil,

I use ELF spray on oil no supprise get it for free but its nice and sticky find that k&n filter clener works well on it for cleaning as scott said wear gloves gets messy other wise and youll end up with cool lookin blue hand (stickers come on large oil pack for "motu" if thats what your after)

I'd rather take the advice from the bike shop and not use the spray and not blow up my engine as an experience. I've had enough experience blowing up bikes.
