I stalled the Z200 this morning , and then when I pressed the starter button it went "rrrrr CLACK" ( beeeep beeeeeeeeeeeeep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep from the car behind earns them a withering glare) so I pull out the kickstarter (gahhh) and give it a bit of a prod, the whole lot locks solid WTF???? (beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep alright already)
So I push the bike up onto the footpath and try to figure it out, have a go at bump starting... nope, locked solid...... weird, try rocking the bike in gear.....CLUNK..... everything free's up, sweet, I give it a kick in the guts, and on about the 20th kick it bursts into life(normally first kick even when stone cold) give it a bit of a rev CLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK, oherr that don't sound too flash, a few more revs and the noise dissapears, sweet, late for work, better get going.

I cautiously wind it up to highway speeds, it sounds and pulls fine, but it vibrates like a bastard, which is new, but it was performing fine so I kept going.

I got to work, and when it was idling away there was that sound again CLACKCLACKCLACKCLUNK(stall) coming from the left engine cover.
Under the pretext of "plant maintainance", I said to the boss "I have quite a bit of maintainance and stuff to do today, I'll be in the plant room if you need me", waited until noone was looking, and pushed the bike into said plant room, laid it down behind some machinery, and proceeded to dismantle it.

have any of you ever been in a refridgeration plant room with 4 150kw screw compressors going 100%? its fookin loud, so loud that without earmuffs it fucks up my balance and spacial awareness (I keep smacking my head on stuff). So seeing as I have got the earmuffs on, and they are the only ones, there is no chance of being disturbed, other than by someone reaching in though the door and flicking the light switch to attract my attention, I am able to rip right into the bike.

I found the problem as soon as I took off the LH engine cover- some of the magnets have come off the flywheel and been smashed to smithereens by the ones that stayed put so thats where the vibration came from, an out of balance flywheel, the windings dont seem to have suffered any terminal damage, but there are tiny grains of magnet stuck to every bit of steel in sight, as well as blocking some drains into the sump, so it will have gone right through the gearbox and all, time for a complete dissasembly and clean :sigh: at least it wasn't terminal.

I do have a complete spare motor located just north of Dunedin, can anyone help me with transport, I don't mind if it takes some time, I get to put a few more Ks on the CBX while waiting

Yes. I've seen that happen. Dunno why, just old age sort of thing. I've seen the central bit that holds it on the shaft come loose too.

Bad luck, and a pain that the magnetised shit has gone everywhere. Little hope of flushing that out I fear .

Sorta - I used to service a compressor room with half a dozen or more V4 Broomwades going full tit.They were close together and I'd shut one down and crawl in beside it to work on it....I'd be touching the one beside me.The other guys thought I was a sissy for wearing earmuffs.I have serious hearing loss,it's possible I'm better off than they are now.

I've seem flywheel magnets fail,these days they are glued in it seems.A total strip,and you will have to pick magnetic slivers off every component...damn near impossible I'd say.Another engine sounds like the better option....that's one bright side to your story.

Haha you'd end up pushing the swing arm through the frame down tube with that amount of excess power . It's supposedly a beautifully handling frame, though -- might be fun with more than the stock 15hp!

Never slight a man's horsepower figures . Just a figure I vaguely recalled being told by somebody I know with a Z200 (no, he doesn't have a spare motor). He's owned it from new. Strangely enough, he lusts after my bike, as it has balancer shafts. I suppose the thumping of a balancer-less single becomes less `character' and more `pain in the arse' when you pass the age of 40.

Rarish bike here, isn't it? I'm doing some wrecker-shopping shortly, I'll ask about a Z200 as well.
