Yeah - I had a bit of a mission ride back from Uni today and once I got inside I found I had ice on my jacket! Must've been sleet I guess. This weather really isn't the best fun in the world. On Sunday I'll escape down to the sunny west coast for a Uni field trip! Weird eh - the west coast is actually much better weather for once (judging by what the weather lady says)!

Jim2 - are you just doing that one paper at Uni? I've got a 5pm lecture too but at least they give us tea/coffee and bickies.

Yep just the one. I've only got time for one per semester. We get tea & coffee and biccies too, so that helps.

My face nearly froze off on the way back down the hill to the car at 8pm.

Got home and no power. It didn't come back until 4 am either. Straight to bed, no tea, and bloody hell it's cold without heating.

Yeah I have Uni friends in the Hutt who are not sure whether to come in today or not.

I personally will still have to ride or spend $7- on bus fares! Bugger that! I don't live too far away so hopefully between here & there I won't get too blown about.

Bit of perspective here.Boscastle in Cornwall here last night, over 130mm of rain in 2 hours,3 houses totally washed away, loads of cars washed out to sea,15 people un-accounted for but hopefully buggered off quick rather than hurt.Trees up-rooted and washed through the high street,8 rescue helicopters winching people from their roofs, top floor windows e.t.c virtually a whole village trashed and similar, though not so extreme, story further along the coast........now that`s shit weather and this is the height of the Summer holiday season as well.A memeber of the public shot some video footage that looks like that Yank disaster movie doing the rounds now, except this was for real, really awesome seeing all the cars being washed down the street.

No trains, snow and ice everywhere, 160 km/h winds - I think you Wlg guys and gals should all stay in bed today. Not necessarily all together. I mean in the altogether... Er...
    I think I'll stop now.

BTW had a pleasant ride to work in Auckland today. Blue sky... (well, a bit, anyway)

    Wow! What a ride!

Left at 7.30 this morning - I wanted to go in the light, instead of the usual ride in darkness.

Very very strong winds, and so much rain its not funny.

Got completely soaked, especially when the waves came over on to the motorway.

Gini didn't want me to leave, especially when morning report stated winds were gusting up to 200km/hr on the motorway.

But in the end it was handleable. The wind knocked me around a bit, but a 230kg bike is pretty hard to shift in the wind.

I would say you can still ride Cathy, but be VERY careful on that little bike.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Hey Lynda, bottom of the Kelson hill eh?!!

Poor contractor standing in a foot of water trying to unclog a drain. No signs out, though I suppose they’d blow away. Anyone not paying attn coming from the south & turning into Major drive will be up to their wheel arches trying to negotiate a 90 degree corner. I shudder to think what would happen on a bike!

If you took it on the back wheel it could be ok

Riding into Wellington city from the Hutt this morning is worthy of some sort of award, either the "Balls of Steel" or the "Golden Idiot". Take your pick!

Let's try for "balls of cold metal" or "sodden idiot". That's more appropriate...

Scoot definitely not an option today. Saw a few sports tourers cruise past unaffected by the wind down the Gorge this morning.

Quite a bit of gravel on the main motorway though that you'll have to watch out for.
Someday we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.
