Press release:
Townley’s Vegas Supercross shootout short-lived.
The Las Vegas East vs West Supercross Lites shootout has ended in an anti climax as one of the main protagonists and newly crowned East Coast champion, Ben Townley of the Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki team suffered a technical mishap in the main event.
Townley’s road to the main was flawless as he qualified fastest in the East coast group and then went on to win his qualifying race, setting the stage for a thrilling 15 lap final.
As the gate dropped for the much awaited duel, Townley’s number 1E Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki grabbed the Progressive hole-shot. Moments later the New Zealander came to a standstill with a derailed chain putting the kiwi out of contention much to the dismay of the sellout Vegas crowd.
“I really enjoyed riding in Las Vegas,” commented Townley. “The hype surrounding this race is unbelievable. I liked the track and the hard dirt and this has been my first heat win so I was really pumped for the final. I ripped the hole-shot and was looking forward to a battle with Dungey and Villopoto but I guess it didn’t happen. I have had a great Supercross season but it’s now time to focus on the outdoors. My fitness is great and I really can’t wait to pound out those 30 minute moto’s.”
Townley will head to Sacramento, CA in two weeks time for the opening round of the AMA Motocross National championship in Hangtown. As a former MX2 World champion, ‘BT’ is tipped as one of the favourites for the outdoor series.

Hangtown this weekend!
"In AMA Motocross Lites Ryan Villopoto begins his title defense. Villopoto is looking to add his name to the esteemed list of winners at the event. Last year the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider finished fifth. Teammate Ben Townley, of New Zealand, may prove to be the biggest challenger to Villopoto’s crown. Townley has the background – he won the MX2 World Motocross Championship in 2004."

I have pics but for some reason they won't upload to the site.
From the AMA website:
Maybe by now you’ve heard about the fireworks between Yamaha of Troy’s Jason Lawrence and Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopto. It actually began in the first Lite’s practice, which later saw a meeting between AMA Race Manager Steve Whitelock, Lawrence, Villopoto, and Ryan’s teammate Ben Townley. Later in practice session number two, Lawrence and Villopoto would continue their own “take out” race until they stopped just before the finish line and Villopoto “ghost rode” his bike into Lawrence. A fight broke out and both were later fined.
Word has it that Ben Townley is going to be on Honda's next year.
Race start times are 8:00 and 10:30. Live laptime thing may be my background at work this morning!

The following is from the AMA...
AMA Racing announced today that Jason Lawrence and Ryan Villopoto have been penalized at the Honda Hangtown Motocross Classic from Sacramento, Calif., the opening round of the 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship presented by FMF.
According to AMA Racing SX/MX Director Steve Whitelock, for actions detrimental to the sport, Lawrence has been fined $7,500 and placed on probation for one year beginning May 18, 2007. Additionally, as part of the penalty, Lawrence loses his earned gate pick for both motos of Sunday’s Motocross Lites event and will now pick 40th out of the 40-rider field.
Villopoto has been fined $2,500.
The penalties stem from a series of instances that occurred during Saturday’s two practice sessions which culminated in a scuffle between the two riders late in session two.
According to Whitelock the severity of the penalties is relative to each riders’ actions. “Jason Lawrence and Ryan Villopoto both share in the blame for what happened today,” said Whitelock. “However, the penalty is harsher for Lawrence because he was the instigator and has demonstrated a pattern of questionable behavior.”
Whitelock confirmed that Lawrence had received a verbal warning regarding his actions after the first practice session.
The final decision on the penalties was reached Saturday evening after meeting with both riders and their teams, reviewing photos and considering the reports of AMA race officials.
